Canary Wharf development Vetro launches a sleek penthouse collection

The six homes offer stylish interiors, a bustling East London location, and views for days

Views are big business in London. The capital is home to a wealth of sky-scraping developments, all jostling for a peek of The Shard, Big Ben or St Paul’s Cathedral.

So coveted are these vantage points that they come at a premium – Savills estimates that the added value can be anywhere between 2.5 and 5 per cent for every two to three storeys added above the surrounding buildings. Last year, estate and lettings agent Barrows and Forrester suggested that the feature could add £321k to the average price of a home, boosting the value by 196 per cent. That said, one look out of a set of floor-to-ceiling windows on the 30th floor tends to dull the sting of those big numbers.

Vetro, a luxury residential building on the edge of Canary Wharf, has fulfilled the order of the day with the launch of its new penthouse collection. The Rockwell development announced the six apartments, all of which enjoy panoramic views of the Thames and the City, at the end of November. Interior spaces are designed to optimise the views, with full-height windows throughout. The resulting ambience is both calming, thanks to the abundance of natural light that flows in, and dramatic thanks to the superlative panoramas.

The duplex penthouses sit atop the 30-storey tower, each featuring open-plan kitchens, dining and living areas at a lower level, and two en-suite bedrooms. Architect SimpsonHaugh has employed marble finishes, dark timber joinery, modern brassware and neutral tones throughout while, upstairs, master bathrooms boast double basin sinks, walk-in rain showers, and full-height framed glass doors. The homes also have substantial built-in storage as well as full air conditioning.

Residents of Vetro have access to a portfolio of amenities which include a boutique in-house gym, a sauna, and a concierge service. The development is also home to landscaped podium gardens, which are also positioned to capture the sights.

Vetro’s situation at the gateway to Canary Wharf means that the heart of the Estate is reachable within a ten-minute walk or three-minute bike ride. It is metres from Westferry DLR Station (on the historic Narrow Street, which is home to some of the capital’s oldest pubs) and, of course, the various options on the Wharf, which is connected by Jubilee and Elizabeth line stations.

The location also means easy access to the massive shopping, eating and drinking offering on the Wharf, which comprises 350 retailers, cafés, bars and restaurants, as well as leisure experiences like open water swimming, go-karting, shooting and tennis.

So, yes, it is true that the higher the property, the higher the premium. But, clearly, there are many Londoners out there willing to pay. If you’re one of them, Vetro should definitely be on your must-see list.
