Harrods is reportedly the biggest seller of beauty in the UK, which is an impressive feat from one location. It is easy however to see why the glossy green Knightsbridge retailer holds a 9.3 per cent share of the UK beauty market. Harrods now boasts the largest Beauty Hall in the world, which has doubled in size since last year following a complete redevelopment. By spring 2020, it will total 90,000sq ft, including the prestigious 4th floor Wellness Clinic, which specialises in dermatology and aesthetics procedures, alongside Europe’s only Anastasia Beverly Hills brow bar.
Following the completion of the first phase of the Beauty Hall's redevelopment in June, Harrods unveiled a sparkling new skincare emporium in October, curated with more than 40 prestigious brands. Shoppers can segue effortlessly between counters such as La Mer, La Prairie and Eve Lom as well as doctor-led brands including Dr Sebagh, RéVive, Dr Barbara Sturm and 111Skin.
J-Beauty is also represented by Shiseido, Sensai and Clé de Peau Beauté, which is known for its cult concealer. Decorté is also exclusive to Harrods, showcasing the innovative AQ Meliority range, which is fronted by Kate Moss. A mindful affair, Harrods also houses an array of pioneering natural beauty brands including Tara Harper, Wildsmith Skin, Fresh Beauty and Votary.
The design has been led by Harrods' Director of Beauty Annalise Fard, who was recently recognised at the CEW Beauty Awards as an innovator in modern luxury. “It is the ultimate beauty sweetshop,” she said. “Whether it’s medi-cosmetic beauty or taking a unique approach to sustainability, our curation is a true testament to our commitment to fulfilling our customers’ beauty needs.”
Discreet consultation rooms allow for shoppers to privately test new products or receive one-to-one advice, while the tech-savvy customers are kept busy with a wealth of cutting-edge gadgets, including cleansing brushes, massaging tools and rose quartz rollers.
Harrods has also announced the launch of H Beauty, which will see standalone Harrods beauty boutiques opening across the UK next year. Scheduled for spring 2020, the first outpost will be in Essex, followed by Milton Keynes. The signature forest green frontage will be updated in candy pink, appealing to a younger generation of beauty aficionados. "From the rise of K-Beauty and J-Beauty to personalisation, the ability to express our individuality through beauty today is extraordinary. We are entering an era of true self-expression, empowerment and celebration of identity."
