There’s a reason London hotels are renowned around the world. Yes, Paris offers romance and refinement and New York boasts trendsetting restaurants, but there’s a certain tradition of pomp and ceremony to be found at London’s finest five-star hotels that can’t quite be replicated elsewhere.

So it’s encouraging to see that after a trying two years for the hospitality industry, the capital’s hotel ranks will be swelling with a number of exciting new openings in 2022. From expansive conversions of some of the city’s most famous listed buildings to the hotels hoping you’ll love them so much you’ll want to move in permanently, these are the best new luxury hotels opening in London in 2022…

One Hundred Shoreditch, Shoreditch

The latest London opening from the group behind Sea Containers London and Pulitzer Amsterdam, One Hundred Shoreditch promises to be both a great place to rest your head in East London and the hip neighbourhood’s coolest new hang-out. Designed by Lore Group creative director Jacu Strauss, the 258 rooms and suites boast bespoke furniture, vintage pieces and custom artwork.

Fine British seafood and an extensive range of all-day dishes will come courtesy of Goddard & Gibbs, while panoramic views and a foliage-strewn terrace are the lures of the Rooftop bar. There will also be a coffee shop from Ozone Coffee, an Italian-style lobby bar serving strong cocktails and Neapolitan pizza, and Seed Library, the latest cocktail bar from award-winning master mixologist Mr Lyan.

Inhabit Queen’s Gardens, Lancaster Gate

Following the success of its debut Paddington hotel, Inhabit will throw open the doors to its second site in nearby Bayswater in spring 2022. The boutique hotel will be set across a series of mid-century townhouses on a quiet square close to Lancaster Gate, offering 159 rooms and guest spaces designed to offer a restorative, as well as environmentally- and socially-conscious, hospitality experience.

Among the highlights will be a meat-free, largely vegan restaurant and bar, a cosy lounge for working and socialising, a library and an underground wellness space boasting a gym, yoga studio and treatment rooms. Designed by Holland Harvey Architects and Caitlin Henderson Design, the hotel has also worked with a number of social enterprises and local independent businesses, including art curator Culture A, Somerset House Studios and soft furnishings maker Aerende, to create interiors with a positive impact on communities and the environment.

Chateau Denmark, Soho

A good urban hotel should be a reflection of the city around it and, in Chateau Denmark, independent hotel brand CAW Ventures hopes to create just that. Inspired by the musical heritage of Soho’s Denmark Street and situated in some of its most important buildings – including the studio where the Rolling Stones recorded their first album, the office where David Bowie signed his first contract and the building where designer Hipgnosis created album artwork for Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and AC/DC – the vibe here is, fittingly, rock’n’roll.

Spread across a series of Grade II-listed townhouses, opulence abounds throughout the Session guest rooms, which juxtapose gilded detailing and sumptuous fabrics with graffiti and bold colour palettes. The hotel’s suite-style apartments, meanwhile, feature unique touches such as caricatures by Sex Pistols frontman Jonny Rotten, hand-carved four-poster beds and party-ready DJ ports. Also inhabiting part of the futuristic Now Building, dining will come in the form of the first London outpost of modern Chinese fine dining group Tattu, while guests will also be granted access to the hotel’s vast art collection, gym and the expertise of its reimagined concierge service: BTLR.

The Twenty Two, Mayfair

Designed to appeal to both Londoners and international travellers, The Twenty Two is a new boutique hotel and private members’ club on Grosvenor Square in Mayfair promising to be the latest refuge for the city’s creative cohort. Spread across 42,500 sq ft in a Grade II-listed Edwardian manor, interior design throughout the public spaces and 31 rooms and suites will come from Natalia Miyar and Bambi Sloan, blending a striking colour scheme with the building’s period features and opulent finishing touches.

An all-day restaurant, which will be open to the public, is set to be helmed by executive chef Alan Christie, who has devised a modern British menu infused with southern European influences. There will be four bars serving an innovative list of signature cocktails, and a club space, to be accessed only by members and hotel guests, which will offer a lounge, bar, evening restaurant and al fresco terrace overlooking Grosvenor Square.

The Other House, South Kensington and Covent Garden

Blurring the lines between a traditional hotel, serviced apartments and private rentals, The Other House will open two locations in London this year that aim to offer discerning travellers the comforts and familiarity of home combined with the facilities and conveniences of a luxury hotel.

Each of the two spaces, one in South Kensington’s Harrington Hall and the other in the Wellington Block in Covent Garden, will offer around 200 ‘club flats’, all of which come equipped with a bedroom, living area and kitchen. Designed to be used for both short and long-term stays, all guests will be granted access to the Members Club, which features a gym and spa, pool, yoga studio and two bars, as well as a bookable screening room, meeting room and private dining spaces. Membership to the club will also be offered as an annual subscription from £100 per month.
