Escape the ordinary at these exquisite new openings across the globe

Not been brave enough to plan your big 2022 holiday yet? With international travel still up in the air, you can hardly be blamed. However, with airlines and hotel groups adapting to the realities of the pandemic, many are now offering extended cancellation policies so you can book with peace of mind. And haven’t we all earned a lavish holiday after the tumult of the past two years?

Good news, then, that 2022 isn’t going to be short of luxurious new hotels to choose from. From an exquisite Raffles outpost in London to new Four Seasons and Aman resorts further afield, these are the best new hotels opening across the globe over the next 12 months…

Europe

Cali Mykonos, Greece

Why book a room when you could have an entire villa? That is the thinking behind uber-luxury new boutique resort Cali Mykonos. Comprised of 40 contemporary white-washed villas standing on their own private beach on Greece’s most famous island, each has gorgeous sea views, a private pool and al fresco dining space primed for private dinners. For those who wish to mingle, there’s also a communal 110-metre-long infinity pool, state-of-the-art gym and spa, on-site Mediterranean restaurant and a fleet of yachts and speed boats waiting to whisk guests off for sightseeing trips to nearby Paros and Tinos.

Como Le Montrachet, France

The Como hotel group’s first opening in France promises to be one of 2022’s most unique. Located in the heart of the Burgundy wine region, the hotel will be housed in four heritage buildings arranged around a landscaped town square, each of which has been sensitively and beautiful restored by interior designer Paola Navone to blend seamlessly with the historic village surrounding them. Offering unparalleled access to the best of the prestigious Côte-d’Or wine region, the phased opening will see 31 suites and rooms offered from autumn 2022, while a full Como Shambhala retreat will open in the following years.

Raffles London, UK

Think there isn’t room for another grand dame five-star hotel in London? Think again. In 2022, the city will welcome a new branch of Raffles, which will open in The OWO as part of the major redevelopment of the Grade II-listed Old War Office in Whitehall. The hotel will be joined by 85 private residences and 11 restaurants and bars in The OWO, which promises to be a new social hub in the capital. Raffles itself, meanwhile, will offer 120 rooms, with key suites to be positioned in offices formerly used by Winston Churchill, David Lloyd George and John Profumo, while there will also be a rooftop terrace with views over The Mall and Buckingham Palace and a comprehensive wellness space with spa and fitness centre.

Sommerro, Oslo, Norway

Just like The OWO above, Sommerro is as much an exercise in preservation and renovation as it is a gorgeous luxury hotel. Housed in an original 1930s Art Deco building in the historic neighbourhood of Frogner, which was formerly the HQ of electric company Oslo Lysverker, the 231-room property hopes to become a modern homage to local culture and heritage when it opens in September 2022. Original works by celebrated Norwegian artist Per Krohg will feature throughout, while, alongside its four restaurants, three bars and the city’s first rooftop pool, the hotel will host a 200-seater theatre in the tradition of classic hotels like The Savoy.

Xenodocheio Milos, Athens, Greece

Located in downtown Athens, Xenodocheio Milos is the first luxury boutique hotel from the Greek restaurant group Estiatorio Milos, and aims to offer a refined stay that brings the best of the city’s culture, history and gastronomy together in one place. Designed around the idea of ‘philoxenia’, the art of making a stranger feel at home, the 43 rooms and suites are relaxed and modern with warm woods, velvet furnishings and luxurious marble bathrooms throughout. Food – a real highlight here – comes from chef Costas Spiliadis, an Athens native who cut his teeth across the globe before returning home to offer simple, elevated Mediterranean dishes using local ingredients.
