Recreate Claridge's St Valentine cocktail to turn your date night at home up a notch on 14 February

If your ideal date night is an evening at home on the sofa with your beloved, and not even London’s decadent bars and restaurants can tempt you to hit the town, you’re likely planning on spending Valentine’s Day in the comfort of your own home. We’re not ones to judge, but we do have a great idea for how you can turn date night on the 14 February up a notch: by recreating a love-inspired cocktail concocted by one of the best hotels in the world.

Yes, that’s right, we’ve enlisted the help of Claridge’s, specifically its new Restaurant which only opened its doors to the public last September, for our latest Cocktail of the Week. Serving elevated British dishes, the glossy eatery – oozing art deco glamour via mosaic flooring and dramatic pendant lamps – also houses a marble bar, serving an array of tipples ranging from the Cherry Old Fashioned to the Peach Piquant.

However, we’re the first to be privy to the team’s latest recipe: St Valentine. Inspired by the patron saint of love, this fruity fizz is perfect for those who can’t venture to Claridge’s (or have accidentally left it too late to book), but wish to add a touch of glamour to their date night at home. “When I was thinking about what to create for Valentine’s Day, I immediately thought of creating a red drink,” explains Maddalena Somo, bar supervisor at Claridge’s Restaurant. “It was only right that I then combined the ingredients that most people love – raspberry, lychee and champagne – [to create] a bittersweet aperitif.”
