David M Robinson

The story starts small — a young boy from Liverpool apprentices to be a goldsmith in the 1950s. Fast forward eight decades and what began in a jewellery repair shop on the city’s Hanover Street has now flourished into a bonafide heritage brand with exquisite craftsmanship, expansive retail spaces, and some of the most coveted brand partnerships in the jewellery business. Meet David M Robinson.

A visionary founder

Founder David Robinson honed his natural craft as a teen, attending night school to qualify as a Fellow of the British Gemmological Association. His creative endeavours gave life to his first eponymous store in 1969 on Liverpool’s North John Street with his expertise recognised and rewarded with two prestigious De Beers Diamond International Awards. His innovative design language and immaculate craftsmanship made David M Robinson jewellery true showstoppers – but it was through exceptional retail skills that David really grew his brand.

The storied jewellery brand expanded its presence in 1972 with a glamourous showroom in Liverpool’s Church Alley and, in 2006, started making waves beyond its North Western roots with a showroom in London’s Canary Wharf. This expansion to the heart of London’s financial centre was accompanied by David M Robinson becoming an exclusive agent for Patek Philippe. Diving deeper into alluring horological partnerships, the brand also became an official Rolex retailer and an authorised retailer for Omega, TAG Heuer and Tudor.

Among the many standout collections, Hopscotch is undoubtedly the most iconic. A red carpet favourite, the playful collection is centred around princess-cut diamonds set in contemporary formations inspired by the eponymous childhood game. The Cloud Nine collection, meanwhile is timeless and elegant. Designed by David Robinson himself, the collection consists of minimal pieces detailed with brilliant round-cut diamonds that are instant modern heirlooms.

Curated spaces

With over 50 years of expertise and a brilliant reputation, David M Robinson is truly flourishing. Its flagship store at Liverpool One includes a dedicated Rolex area, on-site goldsmiths workshops and even a champagne bar. This concept also extends to DMR’s new Canary Wharf boutique, which opened in November last year. A stone’s throw from its original showroom, the new space includes exclusive client service spaces, a luxurious consultation lounge for bridal and bespoke and a beautiful VIP lounge in which to browse through the Rolex library.

After establishing itself in London’s financial hub, DMR recently opened a boutique within The Peninsula hotel. London’s newest five-star hotel perfectly complements the opulence DMR infuses within its products – from the exquisite jewels to the striking Rolex and Patek Philippe watches on offer.
