Every winter, Pantone announces its Colour of the Year, setting the tone for the shade that will dominate all things aesthetic for the year ahead. For 2024, the colour authority has determined, it’s going to be all about Peach Fuzz.
The velvety peach tone is warmer and subtler than last year’s Viva Magenta shade and is meant to evoke empathy and compassion at a time when much of the world is in turmoil. A soft tint nestled between pink and orange, it also suggests the feeling of human touch in an era dominated by technology and digital connections. The softness imbued in the colour (and its name) also serves as a reminder to slow down and prioritise kindness in a world that’s constantly hustling.
Determined by a global team of art and design experts, Pantone’s Colour of the Year seeps through the collective creative consciousness every year and, with its subtle yet sensual nature, owing to its skin colour connotations, Peach Fuzz is primed for fashion and beauty collaborations. Last year’s Viva Magenta had some great fashion moments spurred by the popularity of Barbiecore and Peach Fuzz has already had its moments on the runway, with several designers showcasing looks rendered in the light shade for SS24.
Alaïa offered up sculpted silhouettes in the form of a peach trench coat and pencil skirt while Roksanda and Prabal Gurung leaned into its softness with draped satin and crepe confections. Of course, the colour also bodes well for minimalist interior design lovers and technology fans, with Motorola having already collaborated with Pantone for peach colourways on its phones.
