The must-see looks from the BAFTAs 2024 red carpet
Catch up on all the best looks from the biggest night in British cinema
The great and the good of the international film industry come together in London today for the BAFTAs 2024 – one of the biggest events in the British entertainment calendar. Held at the Royal Festival Hall and hosted this year by David Tennant, the evening will see gongs handed out across the full spectrum of cinema roles, with frontrunners including Oppenheimer, Poor Things, and Killers of the Flower Moon. But, before all that, of course, there’s the small matter of the BAFTAs 2024 red carpet.
Will Margot Robbie reprise her Barbie cosplay? Which gentleman will be brave enough to forgo a traditional tux? Stay with us as we bring you all the best red carpet looks as they happen.
Carey Mulligan in Dior Haute Couture
Maestro star Carey Mulligan kept things simple but statement in a stunning full-skirted Dior Haute Couture gown. Mulligan’s styling was equally fuss-free, with a sleek side-parted bob and showstopper of a necklace her only adornment. Pure class.
Adjoa Andoh in Lanvin
Bridgerton star Adjoa Andoh took the fun factor up a notch in a vibrant pleated Lanvin gown and chunky platforms. Finished with statement shell embellishment and paired with a relaxed make-up look, this a great combination of dress and wearer.
Claire Foy in Armani Privé
Nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in All of Us Strangers, Claire Foy was pure elegance in a lace gown from the Armani Privé SS24 collection. Embellished with crystal-embroidered lace, one could argue the fringing was a step too far and she could have used a diamond or two, but the red lip and loose waves look fantastic on her.
Rosamund Pike in Dior Haute Couture
Rosamund Pike, who has also been spotted out and about at London Fashion Week AW24, positively twirled down the BAFTAs red carpet in this silk chiffon dress from Dior’s latest haute couture collection. Accessorised with gold Dior platforms and simple drop earrings from Boucheron, that is the beam of someone truly having fun on the red carpet.
The Prince of Wales
Attending in his capacity as the president of the British Academy of Film and Television, the Prince of Wales flew solo at this year’s ceremony, with the Princess of Wales still recovering from abdominal surgery. Prince William looked dapper in a midnight blue velvet tux with all the traditional trimmings.
Naomi Campbell in Chanel
British supermodel Naomi Campbell look every inch the fashion icon in a floor-length silk gown by Chanel finished with a layered silk and chiffon cape. Leaving the diamonds at home, Campbell instead let her sharp bob (the perfect frame for those even sharper cheekbones) do the talking.
Cate Blanchett in Louis Vuitton
2023’s Leading Actress winner Cate Blanchett worked with the two lead designers at Louis Vuitton – Nicholas Ghesquiere (womenswear) and Francesca Amfitheatrof (jewellery) – to create her custom BAFTAs 2024 red carpet look. Created entirely from deadstock fabric, the necklace and body jewellery is also reworked from a pearl necklace Blanchett wore to last year’s BAFTAs. Some real thought has gone into this and she looks fabulous for it.
Dua Lipa in Valentino
Musicians don’t tend to frequent the BAFTAs but, thanks to Dance The Night – the complete and utter earworm Dua Lipa wrote for Barbie – the singer has been asked to present an award at this year’s ceremony. Taking the opportunity to go full Hollywood glam, with her Grecian-style Valentino crimson gown, plum-coloured waves and show-stopping Tiffany & Co diamond bracelet, she fits right in.
Emma Stone in Louis Vuitton
Nominated for Lead Actress for her star turn in Poor Things, Emma Stone took a leaf out of her unorthodox character, Bella Baxter’s, style playbook in a pastel peach dress by Louis Vuitton. Featuring a quilted hemline, sheer skirt, embroidered corset-style bodice and asymmetric puff sleeve, some may argue this is a tad over-designed but, thanks to the classic styling choices, this works really well for her.
Phoebe Dynevor
Red carpet looks really don’t come much more classic than this: a draped silk gown with Marilyn Monroe-style halterneck. Is it going to set the fashion presses alight? Probably not. Does she look confident and comfortable in it? Absolutely. Given she’s nominated in the Rising Star category, we think a look that screams ‘box office smash hit’ is actually a very savvy choice.
Margot Robbie in Armani Privé
Nominated for Leading Actress for her role in Barbie, Margot Robbie turned to Armani Privé for, what will likely be, one of her last gowns inspired by the doll. Sleek and (relatively) simple, the paillette-embroidered gown was paired with black opera gloves and a classic up-do in yet another fitting tribute to the world’s most famous toy.
Andrew Scott in Berluti & Paul Mescal
All of Us Strangers co-stars Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal reunited on the BAFTAs 2024 red carpet – with each offering a unique take on the traditional tux. Scott opted for a something a little more casual in vibrant red with a matching shirt and shoes while Mescal donned an elegant double-breasted suit accessorised with Cartier jewels and lapel embroidery.
Barry Keoghan in Burberry
Saltburn‘s Barry Keoghan donned a deep green suit inspired by Burberry’s heritage trench coat at the 2024 BAFTAs. Cut to a classic fit and embellished with epaulettes, zip pockets, and sleeve straps, a white tie leant the look a more formal and event-appropriate finish while Boucheron jewellery added a sparkle.
Lily Collins in Tamara Ralph
Attending in her capacity as an award presenter, Emily in Paris star Lily Collins brought the gothic glamour in a slinky strapless Tamara Ralph gown with intricate floral detailing and giant ruffled sleeves. Finished with lashings of Cartier diamonds and Old Hollywood waves, this a dramatic-yet-classy choice.
Sheila Atim in Gucci
Also attending to hand out a gong, British actress Sheila Atim took the tried-and-tested route of, well, dressing like an award herself. Beautifully cut and fit, this Gucci liquid-metallic sequin gown is the perfect choice for Atim, who tends to prefer her styling kept minimal.
Sope Dirisu in Fendi
Former EE Rising Star nominee and panel member for this year’s award, actor Sope Dirisu chose a sharp double-breasted tux by Fendi for the BAFTAs 2024 red carpet. Swapping the traditional bow tie for a monogrammed tie, it’s a slick if understated look.
Richard E. Grant in Armani
Richard E. Grant is an old hand at this red carpet business – and it shows. Keeping it classic in a midnight blue notch lapel tuxedo by Giorgio Armani, the patent leather slippers and stripy blue socks are lovely finishing touches for showing a little bit of personality.
Anya Taylor-Joy in Fendi Couture
The star decamped to Annabel’s for the British Vogue Fashion & Film Party after the BAFTAs ceremony – which, of course, called for a change into something a little more celebratory. Anya Taylor-Joy nailed the brief in sparkly, champagne-hued Fendi Couture.
