You Season 4: The filming locations to visit in London

09 Mar 2023 | |By Annie Lewis

The largely-problematic romance thriller returns for its fourth season. But you’ll no longer find Joe Goldberg over the pond. Now he’s here in London…

Fancy watching a thriller about an overly-obsessive psychopathic boyfriend who has a tendency to kill his exes? Well, 40 million people around the world clearly do. One of Netflix’s most popular series, You, hooked viewers for three seasons set in New York City, Los Angeles and suburban California. But now it’s a bit closer to home, with You season four (and its filming locations) found in London.

So, let’s recap. Last season saw Joe (Penn Badgley) and his new but equally sociopathic wife Love (Victoria Pedretti) welcome their new baby boy, Henry. As the new family settles into their suburban Californian home, Joe’s stalker tendencies return as he nurtures a new obsession with his next-door neighbour, Natalie, who Love kills within the first few episodes. (Joe, it becomes clear, is not the only one with murderous inclinations).

I aim to keep this brief because a lot goes down in season three (spoiler alert!), but the finale sees Joe kill love; burn his house down with her inside it; blame her for his past mistakes in a suicide note; fake his own death; drop Henry off with a neighbour and escape to the UK. Yes, it’s a lot to take in.

The fourth season is split into two five-episode batches: one released on 9 February and the other a month later on 9 March. The new and improved Joe, aka Professor Jonathan Moore, now has a PhD and is a university professor teaching in the capital. But is everything as it seems? Obviously not – and a new female obsession is already developing.

If the words ‘Hello, You’ don’t send shivers down your spine (or even if they do), season four is set to be one to sink your teeth into. Plus, London-based superfans can visit the series’ filming spots to relive the action. Don’t worry, we’ve done the hard work and found these London locations featured in the latest season of You

St Pancras Station

The first stop on Joe’s journey to England is St Pancras Station. Sporting a baseball cap and keeping a low profile behind newspaper The Daily Day, the grand setting of St Pancras becomes Joe’s launchpad for his new life.

Royal Holloway University

you season 4

Actually situated in Surrey, Joe’s new life as a university professor Jonathan Moore takes shape at Royal Holloway. You heavily features the university’s green grounds, quintessentially British red-brick buildings and historic colonnades between snapshots of Joe teaching English. However, we do have to question the geographical sense, especially as episode one sees Joe walking from the university to his flat in South Kensington, via the West End and Spitalfields. Nothing quite like a marathon as a commute.

Kynance Mews, South Kensington

Unsurprisingly, Joe has landed on his feet when it comes to finding a place to live in the capital. Through a dodgy friend, he gets the keys to a large flat in leafy Kynance Mews in South Kensington. For context, a three-bed terrace on the street IRL will currently set you back around £3.65 million. Joe, allow us to recommend a trip to the nearby V&A and Royal Albert Hall. With your artistic tendencies, we’re sure you’ll love it.

Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square

you season 4

Through the same dodgy friend who gave him the keys to his South Kensington flat, Joe is introduced to a high-society friendship group, the key figure of which is heiress, gallerist and socialite named Lady Phoebe Borehall-Blaxworth. Naturally, Lady Phoebe lives in none other than a gorgeous flat which is actually located in the Four Seasons Hotel at Ten Trinity Square. Throughout the series, it provides the perfect setting for a good party or two.

Knebworth House

you season 4

Thanks to Joe’s new friendship group, he lands an invite to Knebworth House in Hertfordshire. Lovingly-nicknamed Hampsie, this stately home is Lady Phoebe's countryside retreat and it's at this location in episode four that Joe’s identity seems to unravel. You’ll likely recognise the stately home: its 15th-century grandeur has made it a great fit for movies including The King’s Speech, Batman and The Shooting Party.

Lincoln’s Inn Library

you season 4

As a university professor, it’s no surprise Joe spends a lot of his time in the library. But the one in the series is not actually set at Royal Holloway, but in Holborn. Fancy wandering through those impressive bookshelves? Sadly that’s not possible, as the library is only open to barristers or members of the inn.

Grant’s Quay Wharf, Old Billingsgate

you season 4

Even serial killers need a break. To get away from it all (and probably to plan his next move), we see Joe enjoying some alone time on a bench outside Old Billingsgate market, set against an impressive floodlit Tower Bridge. The grand Victorian building was once the site of London’s pre-eminent fish market but is now one of the capital’s largest and most high-profile events spaces.

Tower Bridge

As the second instalment of You Season Four drops today, things are heating up between Joe and fellow murderer Rhys Montrose (Ed Speleers). The last couple episodes released on 9 February saw Joe discover Montrose's real identity as he plans to run for London Mayor — and make Joe do his dirty work for him. Watch a rather tense conversation between the two troubled criminals unravel on a rooftop boasting a rather impressive view of Tower Bridge.
