Fairmont Windsor Park

When you hear the words ‘country house hotel’ what springs to mind? Lavishly traditional weddings, perhaps. Maybe it’s overstuffed armchairs and solid four-poster beds. It’s almost certainly a single malt by the fire after walking your aged labrador.

What it probably isn’t, however, is 4D body scanning and cryotherapy chambers. But check in to the gorgeous Fairmont Windsor Park and this, among many other state-of-the-art amenities, is exactly what you’ll find.

But, before we get into that, let’s begin with the basics. Set adjacent to 4,800 rolling acres of Windsor’s Great Park, this expansive hotel may look like a classic 18th Century Queen Anne country manor but is, in fact, brand new. As such, it offers an uncompromising blend of quintessentially British hospitality combined with contemporary elegance and luxury.

Take, for example, its 251 spacious rooms and suites. Forget duvet-thick curtains strung across draughty lead windows, creaky floorboards and ancient not-quite-up-to-the-job plumbing. Rooms at the Fairmont Windsor Park are bright and light, with soothing colour palettes, Smart TVs, vast king-size beds and glorious marble bathrooms.

Then there’s the food: with no fewer than seven bars and restaurants, there’s certainly plenty to choose from. Pop into the hugely Instragammable Orchid Tea Room to indulge in a traditional afternoon tea or settle into the Library Club (which incorporates authentic features from the original mansion house which once stood on this spot) for an afternoon of brandy and board games.

Evenings at the Fairmont Windsor Park, meanwhile, begin in Schroders’ Botanicals Bar. Join a mixology class or take a seat at the bar to meander through its menu of sophisticated serves made using essential oils and fine botanical ingredients. (And don’t forget to return the next morning for a range of hangover-busting juices and smoothies.)

For dinner, choose between the smart-casual Moreish restaurant, where a menu of European and Middle Eastern fusion fare is made using ingredients from the Royal farms and local Windsor producers, or the onsite fine dining restaurant 1215. Set on the south lawn with incredible views over the landscaped gardens, this stunning eatery is the perfect destination for celebrating occasions big and small. The regularly changing seasonal menu utilises ingredients grown in the hotel’s own herb and vegetable gardens, with diners offered the choice between an a la carte offering and a seven-course tasting menu.

But what about that cryotherapy chamber? Well, here’s where we come to the real jewel in the crown at Fairmont Windsor Park: its enormous spa and wellness centre.

Spanning a huge 2,500 square metres, facilities include a hair salon, Truefitt & Hill barbershop, Nailberry and Evo nail salon, reformer Pilates studio, outdoor tennis and padel courts, indoor and outdoor gyms. There’s also a courtyard hydrotherapy pool and a thermal suite complete with a 20m indoor pool, sauna, steam room, ice fountain and hot tub, as well as a six-person marble hammam and the UK’s first in-spa multi-person cryotherapy chamber, able to host up to five guests at a time should the prospect of facing sub-zero temperatures alone not appeal.

Needless to say, the treatment menu is equally state-of-the-art. Trainers are on hand for sports performance coaching while those in search of a full MOT can opt for 4D body scanning and bespoke health assessments before being prescribed a unique treatment plan of fitness classes, vitamin infusions, physiotherapy, massage and acupuncture.

For those looking for ultimate pampering, a collection of signature rituals offers just the thing. Curated by the hotel’s wellness experts to target different stressors, choose the Restless Traveller acupressure ritual to combat jet lag, the Ojas Ayurvedic Surrender ritual to rebalance the body and release tension or the Maharani Detox Glow Heated Cocoon for top-to-toe rejuvenation. For a truly memorable day, book the Signature Royal Suite, which includes a VIP area of the spa reserved for private use, complete with its own couples’ treatment room, hot tub, rasul steam room, changing area and relaxation lounge.

Last, but certainly not least, the newest addition to the spa is the high-tech Facebible clinic. This independent clinic offers world-leading doctor-led aesthetic and skincare treatments, as well as consultations and private GP services. From injectables and skin resurfacing to laser and IPL treatments, this is Harley Street-style service in the heart of the countryside.

Serene surrounds, five-star style and a state-of-the-art spa onsite? Once you’ve checked in to the Fairmont Windsor Park you might never want to leave.
