This week, Olivia Colman was awarded a BFI fellowship, presented the 2019 BFI Chairman’s Dinner held at Rosewood London. The Oscar-winning actress picked up the prestigious accolade wearing a Lola Cocktail Ring and coordinating Luna Earrings from the Atelier Swarovski by Penélope Cruz fine jewellery line.

The decision to wear Atelier Swarovski runs deeper than simple sparkle. The 13-piece collection, previewed by Cruz on the red carpet in Cannes last year, is made using lab-grown Swarovski Created diamonds and rubies, complemented by responsibly sourced Topaz gems and Fairtrade gold. Colman, a longstanding supporter of sustainable luxury, picked the contemporary pieces for their eco-conscious credentials, and matched her jewellery with a dress by Deborah Milner, purveyor of sophisticated, sustainably crafted occasionwear.

Cruz is more than just the poster girl for her Swarovski collection and was very involved during the design process. The Lola ring, crafted using synthetic ‘carnet’ rubies, is inspired by a garnet ring worn by Cruz’s grandmother, Modesta, while the rest of the collection distills her 300-strong selection of inspirational pictures spanning film, fashion, art, ballet and literature.

20 years in the making, Swarovski Created Diamonds have the same optical, chemical and physical characteristics as mined diamonds. Nadja Swarovski, CEO of Atelier Swarovski, has long been at the forefront of fostering new talent and fresh ideas, and this feels like the tip of the iceberg for the Austrian jewellery magnate. Swarovski is also a certified member of the Responsible Jewellery Council, which sets the standards for the jewellery supply chain, from mining to retail.

The Atelier Swarovski by Penélope Cruz collection is now available to buy at Harvey Nichols, alongside further in-house creations and a series of sinuous, delicate pieces by New York-based jeweler Paige Novick. “The Atelier Swarovski Fine Jewellery Collection reflects our 120-year heritage,” said Nadja. “Its blend of sustainability, craftsmanship and innovation is embedded in our DNA.”
