Rocketman: A Menswear Collection From Stage to Street
With Elton-mania at fever pitch after the release ofRocketman, MR PORTER has created a 70s-inspired collection. Just don't go breaking any hearts.
Richard Madden as John Reid, Elton John’s manager and lover
Elton John is not known for his subtle dress sense. Perhaps for this reason, MR PORTER have decided to recreate the wardrobe not of Mr Rocketman, but another key character in the superstar’s life: John Reid. Played by Richard Madden in the recently released biopic, John Reid and Elton John met at a Christmas party in 1970. From the 1970s until 1998, he managed Elton John and the two started dating for 5 years. Reid told The Daily Record in 1998: “When I met Elton, I didn’t even realise his potential. I’ve never claimed to have discovered him. In fact, when he suggested I should manage him, I wasn’t enthusiastic.”
The 16-piece collection sits under MR PORTER’s in-house tailoring brand Kingsman and follows a similar ‘costume to collection’ model as MR PORTER’s previous two capsule collaborations with the Kingsman films produced by Matthew Vaughn.
Reid and John famously fell out in the late 90s, but we’re pretty sure the collection would be met with approval by the Rocketman himself.
