The luxury retailer launches its first rental platform geared towards the festive party season

Luxury retailer, MatchesFashion, has launched a pop-up service allowing customers to rent designer clothing and accessories throughout the festive season.

Aimed at helping busy shoppers find their perfect Christmas outfits, the fashion brand’s buying team has curated a collection of stand-out new season pieces which can be loaned to customers for parties and big events.

This edit is a first for MatchesFashion and comprises occasionwear styles from some of the best-selling designers, including Aje, Cecilie Bahnsen and Emilia Wickstead, as well as exclusive pieces from 16Arlington, Nensi Dojaka and The Vampire’s Wife.

The rental service will be based at the brand’s Mayfair townhouse at 5 Carlos Place from 21 November to 23 December. Here, customers can try on in-store, rent same-day and reserve for their Christmas calendar. With different loaning periods to choose from, ranging from four days to 20, MatchesFashion hopes to enable partygoers to curate their festive wardrobe in just one trip to the boutique.

This is the latest in a string of luxury retailers introducing rental platforms, which have proven to be a more economical and sustainable alternative to fast fashion. The consumer desire to find exquisite designer pieces without damaging the planet has become big business too, with multi-million-pound rental platform By Rotation boasting 200,000 members and Selfridges having launched its own loan service in 2021.

MATCHESFASHION Rental Edit

For its debut outing in the space, MatchesFashion has teamed up with established rental service, Hurr. Now experts in the game, Hurr launched in 2018 as the UK’s first peer-to-peer fashion rental platform. In line with Matches’ luxury positioning, Hurr stocks brands such as Ganni and Alexa Chung to Balenciaga and Saint Laurent and is now a Certified B Corporation meaning it’s, quite literally, in the green zone when it comes to social and environmental impact.
