Fendi Launches Made-to-order Shoes on Bond Street
The Italian fashion house has enlisted Patricia Manfield to front the new #MyFendiColibrì campaign, which invites you to play shoe designer for the day
From the Baguette it-bag to the Peekaboo and the Kan I, Fendi is one of the few luxury brands that has managed to maintain a strong sense of its own identity throughout its made-to-order offerings. Fendi fans have witnessed the shift in focus towards made-to-order accessories over the last few years, eagerly anticipating the launch of a footwear collection they could customise themselves. And the time has come: in June 2019, the Bond Street boutique launched #MyFendiColibrì, inviting clients to create their very own pair of iconic Colibrì sandals.
Colibri translates as ‘hummingbird’ in Italian, and the sporty style is fittingly lightweight and streamlined. Originally designed by the house’s third-generation creative director Silvia Venturini-Fendi (the brains behind the 1997 Baguette, too), the Colibrì incorporates athletic neoprene ankle straps, an elegant kitten heel and a contrasting toe – all of which you can tweak to your own design at the London flagship.
Choose between several finishes on the toe from leopard print calf hair, embellished mesh, nude or black satin or the iconic double-F logo. The latter was created by Karl Lagerfeld in 1965, and makes for a savvy excuse to invest in a piece of the late designer’s legacy; the recent renaissance of monogrammed fashion has only been cemented by his passing away in February, and logos have gone from Nineties to now, appearing in catwalks and street style for several seasons back to back.
The heel comes in two wearable midi heights to accommodate comfort and personality, plus four finishes – patent black and gold, hand-woven rattan and animal print. Mix and match until you’re content with the design, and the straps will then be fitted in-house to your specifications.
