City development The Haydon unveils a brand new penthouse

This tasteful, comfortable home is proof that The City is shaking off its transient nine-to-five reputation

As more luxury high-rise developments pop up in London, more gorgeous penthouses come to market. This month, the apartment in question sits atop The Haydon, an 87-apartment building bang in the middle of Square Mile.

This triplex property has been christened The Windsor Penthouse, for the fact that its views stretch all the way to the Tower of London – a delightful juxtaposition with the modern environs of the home.

The 15th-floor space is understated, yet the calibre of the design and architecture is evident – in other words, the penthouse is a masterclass in quiet luxury. The dining and kitchen areas have been made for socialising and entertaining, with flexible spaces and floor-to-ceiling windows that artfully capture the skyline – always a good conversation starter.

Above, the 16th floor is dedicated to a private roof terrace – as you might imagine, the views up here are pretty good, too. Below, the 14th floor is home to three bedrooms: the principal suite, with walk-through wardrobes, an en suite bathroom and a private terrace; plus two further bedrooms served by a family bathroom.

Interiors are the work of A.London, known for its fully-bespoke designs, and are inspired by the cityscape – specifically, where the buildings meet the sky. Think injections of powder blue, light wood tones, and brass accents to reflect the changing sky throughout the day. We particularly love the velvet armchairs in the living space, the distinctive headboards in the second and third bedrooms, and the contrasting black accents throughout, which lean into the urbanness of the development.

Elsewhere in the development, architecture practice Acme has created a unique identity for The Haydon. Each of the studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments has high-quality finishes, and amenities that are modern and extensive – think bespoke oak veneer wardrobes and Aquavision TV screens in bathrooms.

Residents are privy to a wellness suite complete with a gym, yoga studio and stretch zone, and a spa pool. There is also a surround sound cinema and a beautifully landscaped and generously sized 11th-floor residents’ terrace. The development looks good from the outside, too, with a unique stepped design, which has the dual benefit of maximising light, space and privacy in each home.

The Square Mile is not traditionally regarded as a residential area, but rather as the beating heart of the financial district. It has been so since the earliest settlement of London, developed into a commercial centre by the Romans in AD 43. From the 16th century, this area became a banking hub, with institutions like the Bank of England and the Royal Exchange being constructed around this time.

The 21st century brings new challenges and changes to The City: in the wake of the advent of hybrid and flexible working, business districts are increasingly pivoting towards lifestyle offerings. Here, new initiatives from the City of London Corporation are set to bolster the area’s leisure and cultural scene – including the relaxation of planning rules to allow the repurposing of office space into things like galleries and hotels.

The Windsor is a homey penthouse with proximity to business – welcome to the future of The City.

The Windsor Penthouse is on the market for £4,200,000. Prices at The Haydon start from £820,000, visit regal-london.co.uk.
