There are few things better, or prettier, than Chelsea at Christmas. This winter, the neighbourhood is set to be transformed into a joyful winter wonderland, replete with twinkling lights, seasonal menus, al fresco dining and a glittering array of special events.
Mark Saturday 20 November in your diary for a fittingly festive afternoon of entertainment to celebrate the annual turning on of the Christmas lights. There will be live music, roaming performers and picture-perfect displays throughout the neighbourhood, as well as an appearance from Santa Claus.
Duke of York Square is hosting a festive edition of its weekly Fine Food Market, brimming with artisan treats, while the Sloane Square Winter Terrace will be serving seasonal cocktails. King’s Road will be part-pedestrianised for the first time, encouraging revellers to slow down and enjoy the merriment.
At 5pm, Chelsea will light up with thousands upon thousands of glittering lights, covering Sloane Square, Sloane Street, Duke of York Square, Pavilion Road and the King’s Road.
The celebrations continue on 4 December, when the annual Chelsea Christmas Shopping Event returns. Enjoy dazzling discounts, special offers and in-store activities, including complimentary services like wrapping and personalisation. Participating boutiques include Kate Spade, Space NK, Tom Davies, Hayley Menzies and many, many more.
Fill up on festive cheer throughout the winter months at Chelsea’s array of brilliant restaurants, many of which are boasting toasty outdoor terraces. Begin with coffee and artisan baking on Pavilion Road, followed by lunch on Duke of York Square and perhaps a Champagne-tinged afternoon tea at The Cadogan hotel. In signature fashion, Ivy Chelsea Garden has gone to town on decor, resplendent with baubles and vibrant foliage.
Anya Hindmarch is hosting a Christmas grotto at the Anya Village, an evolving space on Pont Street that currently features several boutiques and a destination café.
You can also ignite your yuletide spirit at Cadogan Hall, bedecked in its Christmas finery. Performance highlights this season include the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Barts choir, The Definitive Rat Pack and A Dickensian Christmas, featuring classic carols and a selection of Dickens’ readings – guaranteed to uplift even the most stubborn Ebenezer Scrooge this winter.
If you know someone special who can’t quite make it down to the Chelsea festivities over the next few weeks, why not give them the gift card like no other this Christmas? The Sloane Street Gift Card is available to buy at sloanestreet.co.uk and is valid in over 50 boutiques. It promises an exceptional day out they won’t forget.
So, whether you’re looking for a family day out full of yuletide cheer, an indulgent Christmas catch-up with friends or want to get those tricky customers ticked off your gift lift early this year, make Chelsea your go-to destination for all things festive this holiday season.
