For the Shell of it: Seaside-Inspired Jewellery

The conch is cool once more

This season, she sells sea shells not only on the seashore, but in Mayfair, Shoreditch and all over Instagram as the coastal emblem continues to undergo a luxe makeover. Shells are no longer naff, but refined, grown-up and cool, while igniting the daydreamer in all of us.

A progression of the popular pearl revival, the trend for shell-shaped jewellery takes its cue from the runway. Prada piqued our attention at the end of last year with chunky shell necklaces worn over fuzzy knitwear, while the recent Gucci Resort show was punctuated by shoulder-grazing, iridescent scallop shell earrings.

Gleaming designs twinkle with wanderlust, capturing the free-spirit of far-flung exotic beaches and the nostalgia of Britain’s rugged shores. Standout pieces include Blooming Dreamer’s whimsical scallop shell pendants, edged in 24K gold leaf and Tohum’s lustrous cowrie designs. Or go all out with a diamond-loaded conch by Aron & Hirsch or the entrancing Lady V ring by Venyx, studded with vivid gemstones.

Slip a shell into your wrist stack or rest against a tanned décolletage, while decadent chandelier earrings bring insouciant glamour to your ocassionware wardrobe. We predict you’ll be wearing these covetable designs long into autumn, as a cheerful reminder of summers gone by.
