Haute House: Bella Freud Designs Luxury Penthouse
The duplex apartment is infused with Freud's playful spirit and seventies-inspired aesthetic
Fashion designer Bella Freud has partnered with Maria Speake, co-founder of interior design mecca Retrouvius, to design a three-bedroom penthouse in the former BBC headquarters in White City. The Television Centre apartment mirrors Freud’s 1970s design aesthetic, with vibrant block colours, vintage furniture and special edition rugs featuring the designer’s signature scrawl, made in collaboration with the Rug Company.
Artwork includes photographs by Lorena Lohr, a London-based photographer known for capturing banal details with dream-like beauty; provocative plates by Eliza Hopewell and hypnotic op-art prints by Jacob Wolff, all of which are available to order.
“Bella Freud was an ideal fit for Television Centre because her values and brand are so aligned with our own,” said Peter Allen, sales and marketing director at Stanhope. “Television Centre is a development that is strongly rooted in West London as is Bella Freud’s own brand and that of collaborator’s Retrouvius. We have always sought to promote the best of British design and Bella Freud and Retrouvius certainly represent that.”
The duplex apartment is one of five premium flats located in The Helios, a circular Grade-II listed building in the heart of the Television Centre that has undergone a three-year transformation. “Television Centre mixes modern, contemporary living with a respect for its history and the past.”
