London transforms into a magical wonderland come Christmas, and nowhere is the festive spirit stronger than in Chelsea. The Yuletide vibes are once again taking over the King’s Road from 18 November 2023 with the switching on of the iconic Chelsea Christmas lights.

Chelsea Christmas Lights Switch-On

The fun starts at midday along a pedestrianised stretch of the King’s Road, starting from Sloane Square, with a Christmas market and live music, face painting, food and seasonal tipples. At 5pm, Father Christmas will take to the stage with Santa’s Special Helper, a local child at the top of the ‘Nice List’, to switch on the lights, marking the start of the most magical time of year with a firework display and light snow.

If the brilliant lights don’t tempt you, the delicious aromas wafting from the food stalls surely will. Fill up on festive treats at over 40 foodie pop-ups, including Artisan du Chocolate and Charlotte’s Cloud. Alternatively, pop in to Olivia von Halle to warm up with some mulled wine or toast the spirit of Christmas at pop-up bars from The Cadogan Arms, and The Botanist among others.

Bringing little ones along? A mix of festive performers and local choirs performing on stage and walking through the part-pedestrianised King’s Road will add a cinematic touch to the market. Elsewhere, children will be kept very busy with numerous arts and crafts workshops, including juggling and balloon modelling, face painting from Trotters and charity partners, the Kensington & Chelsea Foundation, as well as pop-up shoe personalisation from Superga and festive bauble personalisation by Peter Jones.

Of course, the fun extends far beyond the light switch-on event. Pop into Anya’s Grotto at the Anya Village until 24 December to be led on a tour of a candy cane forest by Father Christmas or plan a visit on Saturdays from 25 November to 16 December to treat your little one to a complimentary carriage ride – just head to the end of Pavilion Road and look out for the elf. Peter Jones will also be home to a Santa’s Grotto welcoming children and four-legged friends alike from 24 November – 24 December.

Christmas shopping in Chelsea

Christmas in Chelsea is also a haven for shopaholics. Permanently home to a coterie of impressive brands, as well as those joining Chelsea for its seasonal market, there are some fabulous discounts, offers and treats to be enjoyed in the run-up to Christmas.

For the tricky names on your gifting list, consider Papersmiths’ in-store calligrapher for a personalised diary or PAIGE’s complimentary embroidery for a unique fashion gift.
