Meet the doctors 

Dr Bessam Farjo 

A global pioneer and one of the leading authorities in hair restoration surgery and regenerative medicine, Dr Bessam Farjo has helped shape the speciality over the past three decades. After graduating from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, he then gravitated towards hair transplantation after a specialist fellowship in Toronto. In 1993, he returned to the UK to establish the Farjo Hair Institute alongside his wife Dr Nilofer Farjo.

Among his many accolades, he performed what’s considered to be the world’s first full beard transplant for a burns patient in 1996 and later served as the principal clinical investigator for the world’s first human clinical trial in hair cell multiplication (cloning) between 2003 and 2009. In 2007 he became the first European President of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. Farjo’s academic research has been included in more than 140 peer-reviewed publications and other presentations including textbook chapters, with collaborations spanning leading universities such as Manchester, London and Durham.

In 2012, he and Dr Nilofer Farjo were jointly awarded the prestigious ISHRS Platinum Follicle Award, becoming the only UK surgeons to receive one of the organisation’s highest honour. He is also well-known to TV audiences appearing on numerous shows including BBC’s The One Show and Horizon, and Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies.

Dr Nilofer Farjo 

Dr Nilofer Farjo is a world-renowned hair transplant surgeon and one of the leading experts in hair biology and female hair loss. Following her surgical training at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, she pursued specialist training in hair transplant surgery in Toronto, before co-founding the Farjo Hair Institute with her husband. 

For more than 30 years, she has successfully bridged the gap between laboratory research and surgical practice, helping advance the understanding of the complex biological, hormonal and psychological factors influencing hair loss. She is a founding member of the British Association of Hair Restoration Surgery and is particularly recognised for her expertise in female pattern hair loss and diffuse thinning, combining scientific, medical insight with considered and personalised patient support.

Dr Greg Williams

Dr Greg Williams is the lead Hair Restoration surgeon at Farjo’s London practice, specialising in both routine and highly complex corrective surgeries. Before joining the Institute, he spent a decade as a top consultant burns surgeon at London’s only Burn Service at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and was a Clinical Director of the London and South East of England Burn Care Network. Focusing on reconstruction of the scalps and faces of burn victims, he became an expert in treating scar alopecia and chose to dedicate his career entirely to surgical hair restoration.

Dr Williams is a specialist advisor to the CQC and has advised the UK Department of Health. He sits on the Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP) and the Cosmetic Practice Standards Authority (CPSA). He collaborates on research with Imperial College London and lectures at University College London’s Plastic Surgery MSc programme. He is also a Diplomate and past board director of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS), the only globally recognised qualification in the field.
