I’m not going to sit here and tell you about the importance of SPF; that’s a given. What I am going to introduce you to, however, is a new type of SPF that is becoming increasingly popular for its hydrating, moisturising, and lightweight appeal: SPF waters.
While sunscreens have long been available in all forms – from creams to serums to sprays – SPF waters offer something slightly different and are an easy pleaser for all skin types. Designed with a refreshing, barely-there texture, the water-based formulas are light, cooling and almost invisible on the skin while providing broad-spectrum sun protection. A summer skincare staple, they are ideal for everything from long hot beach days to scorching city commutes during heatwaves, and really do feel as good as they protect.
What is SPF water?
An SPF water is a water-based sunscreen with a clear, lightweight formula, typically in a spray or mist form. Unlike richer, thicker, and traditionally white creams, they are fast-absorbing without leaving any sticky or greasy residue on the skin. Many are enriched with hydrating ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin, replenishing moisture levels on sunny days while protecting the skin from both UVA and UVB rays, preventing sunburn and long-term skin damage.
How to apply SPF waters
One of the key appeals of SPF waters is their easy application. Whether a spray or mist, simply spritz all over the face and body for maximum protection. Like all sunscreens, reapply generously and regularly throughout the day for prolonged shielding, especially after swimming and sweating. Quick and easy to apply and normally water-resistant, they make an ideal option for when on the go and can be applied over makeup.
