If you’ve so much as dipped a toe into the luxury skincare market you’ll know about La Prairie’s Skin Caviar range. First launched in 1987 and presented in chic cobalt blue bottles, inspired by artist Niki de Saint Phalle, that still make the brand instantly recognisable today, the line represented a breakthrough in skincare science, being the first products to harness the myriad beneficial properties of caviar.

And, it is with this ethos in mind that La Prairie debuts the newest addition to the collection this month: La Prairie Skin Caviar Harmony L’Extrait.

Representing yet another breakthrough in skincare research, to create Skin Caviar Harmony, La Prairie’s scientists focused not on the horizontal layers of the skin but, instead, on the skin’s ligaments. These vertical structures form a strong yet flexible network throughout the hypodermis, acting as pillars to provide support and structure to the skin. As the skin ages, these ligaments weaken, which in turn causes the skin to sag, lose firmness and form deep wrinkles.

Working with a fellow Swiss bioanalytical laboratory, La Prairie’s researchers set about identifying the key components of skin ligaments, allowing them to understand how ageing may be treated or affected by different skincare ingredients. The result was Caviar Infinity: a new form of La Prairie’s proprietary caviar blend augmented with a specific (and secret) high-efficacy active ingredient that strengthens and densifies skin structure, effectively reversing the ageing process.

With this ace up its sleeve, La Prairie set about creating the perfect product to showcase its breakthrough. Inspired by the core principle of the Bauhaus art movement – the harmonious union of form and function – Skin Caviar Harmony is formulated with micro-fluidic technology and made up of tiny beads suspended in a gel, which melt onto the skin and transform into a light extrait.

The sensation of tightening and smoothing are almost instantaneous, while regular use will see the face’s contours resculpted, the appearance of wrinkles reduced and the skin left feeling rejuvenated, plump and youthful.
