Turkish creatives have been enjoying success in London for quite some time, be it Manu Atelier IT-bags or decadent Dora Teymur shoes. The latest luminary to put down roots in London is Hakan Köse, one of Turkey’s most renowned hairdressers with a flagship salon in Istanbul. The revered stylist has opened his first British outpost on the King’s Road in partnership with Mehmet Bozdal.

“I have followed the British hairdressing industry and worked closely with other UK stylists for many years,” explains Köse, who counts Eva Hergitzova, James Blunt and Lady Mountbatten among clients, alongside the crème of Turkey’s entertainment industry. “It was a natural progression to open and salon here for creativity, and with so many other clients living here already.”

Set over two floors, HK London is positioned opposite Bluebird Chelsea. This lower stretch of the King’s Road is becoming a hair and beauty mecca, with Space NK, FaceGym and Browhaus all within scissor-snapping distance of one another.

Venture to this intimate, pin-smart salon for a contemporary cut with longevity. On my visit, the affable Hakan coolly runs his scissors through my hair, snipping here, grazing there, effortlessly executing meticulous layers and volume. Weeks on, it continues to draw compliments while remaining easy to style.

The salon also offers exacting colour, balayage, deep conditioning treatments, up-dos and beauty packages. Visitors natter away to one another, sipping on Turkish tea or a heart-stoppingly strong Turkish coffee, while downstairs is regularly reserved for private clients and group bookings. Köse is also generous with his knowledge and hair tips, allowing you to soak up some haircare wisdom while sitting in the chair too.
