The fine jeweller has donated more the 50 pieces to support the work of Make-A-Wish UK

Rome-based fine jeweller Fabio Salini has announced a new collaboration with Sotheby’s auction house, which will host a charity sale in support of The Art of Wishes UK. The auction, which will be held in London on 7 September 2022 and online from 25 August – 8 September 2022, will feature 51 signature Fabio Salini pieces valued at a total of around £2 million, with 100 per cent of the proceeds to be donated to the charity, an initiative that works with the global art community to support Make-A-Wish UK.

Jewellery Creations by Fabio Salini will form part of Sotheby’s autumn Luxury Edit series; a curated selection of auctions spanning London, New York, Paris and Hong Kong offering exquisite luxury items hand-picked by tastemakers, including Maria Sole Ferragamo and Sotheby’s own experts. Among the highlights are a pair of Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 sneakers estimated at $14,750, rare platinum, sapphire and chalcedony rings predicted to go for more than $41,000, and a playful Hermès Gulliver Quelle Idole Kelly bag on offer for $50,000.

The breadth and artistry of the Fabio Salini auction, however, means it promises to be one of the standouts of the season and, as such, all 53 pieces will be available to view at Sotheby’s Bond Street from 1 September 2022. As with all Salini’s designs, the pieces offered for auction are exemplary of the jeweller’s innovative approach to materials and his standards of precise execution, using techniques learned while cutting his teeth at Cartier and Bulgari.

Big, bold and beautiful, this is not jewellery for wallflowers. Among the most coveted lots will be a pair of triple-hoop chandelier earrings rendered in titanium and entirely set with pavé diamonds and emeralds, with a stunning pear-cut Zambian emerald suspended from each hoop. Featuring a total of 86.44 carats of emeralds and 6.83 carats of diamonds, they are true show-stoppers.

Bidding is also expected to be hotly contested for a highly unusual carbon-fibre necklace strung with a double row of oversized white South Sea pearls. Featuring 30 exquisite pearls measuring 12-16mm, this piece is the perfect demonstration of Salini’s passion for 1980s glamour and tribal influences, as well as his unique approach to co-opting unexpected materials.

“I have always wanted to elevate jewellery to a form of fine art and what is the purpose of art if it cannot change lives?” says Salini, who says he was inspired to host the auction after witnessing the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. “My works are an aesthetic expression of concepts and feelings, and the events of the past three years made me question how I could use these works to help those less fortunate.

“I was searching for a greater purpose for my work and as such am delighted to be auctioning this body of work in aid of The Art of Wishes – it is a magnificent charity that seeks to deliver dreams and experiences to children who are going through very difficult times.”
