The Clash de Cartier collection was designed to be noticed. Its ribbed-mesh pieces are geometrically modern and aesthetically eye-catching. The soundtrack to the campaign video is an upbeat, toe-tapping number. Its star: a free-spirited English-Brazilian actress chosen for her embodiment of duality; nationality, culture and attitude.
Kaya Scodelario has a glitteringly full CV, having played a number of remarkable women during the course of her 12-year career. As evidenced by comments under the campaign video, she is still adored for her hypnotic, spirited performance as Effy in British teen drama Skins, where it all began for the Brit-born actress.
Kaya is the face, and personality, of the brand new Clash de Cartier collection of rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces: contemporary yet neo-classical; elegant yet irreverent; serious yet quirky. The design has taken the Maison’s aesthetic heritage of studs, beads and clous carrés and shaken them up to form a distinctive ribbed mesh. The resulting pieces are sharp, but soft to touch, with a heritage-inspired geometric design softened by gentle curves and contours.
We love the fact that the interconnected studs are held in place but free to move. Cartier’s jewellery masters developed this articulated mechanism in the Maison’s workshops, needing new techniques and tools for every piece, which has been precisely calibrated to hold the studs in place.
Kaya herself explains that her role in the campaign is that of "a dual woman, one who embodies opposite styles that may appear contradictory, but that harmonise to create a stylish shake-up of the Maison’s heritage."
