Where does high society honeymoon? From safaris in the Serengeti to romantic getaways in Positano, here are the ultimate destinations to have on your radar

International superstar Dua Lipa broke the internet not once, but three times last month: firstly with her Marylebone Town Hall nuptials (where she wore Schiaparelli), secondly with her Palermo wedding where she was dripping in Chanel, and her husband Callum Turner wore Louis Vuitton, and thirdly with a honeymoon post documenting her sun-drenched escape to Hotel Il Pellicano on the Tuscan coast. Having garnered more than five million likes on Instagram, marketing doesn’t get much better than this.

Looking for other celebrity-approved honeymoon hotels? We’re here to help. From the private island escape that catered to the Prince and Princess of Wales after their 2011 wedding, to family-run hotels which have hosted the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Reese Witherspoon, step inside these gorgeous romantic hotels below.

Hotel Il Pellicano, Italy

Notable honeymooners: Dua Lipa and Callum Turner

In 1950, Patsy Daszel and Michael Graham created a romantic hideaway in a secret cove, giving birth to Il Pellicano. With famous guests like Charlie Chaplin and European royalty, the Tuscan home became renowned for its pristine cove, rugged cliffs, and enchanting atmosphere – and has gained international recognition yet again this summer as the honeymoon hotel of choice for It couple, Dua Lipa and Callum Turner. Following their multi-million-pound Sardinian wedding last month, they enjoyed a multi-destination honeymoon across Italy, with pitstops in Rome, the Amalfi Coast, and Porto Ercole which Hotel Il Pellicano calls home.

Featuring 50 rooms and suites, accommodation ranges from the lemon-hued Deluxe Suite to the stand-out, two-bedroom Argentario Suite which is complete with a private pool and uninterrupted views of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Elsewhere, there are two restaurants – Michelin-starred Ristorante Il Pellicano, and the more laidback al fresco Pelligrill – and the holistic wellness concept which is across Pellicano hotels, Benissimo Club.

From £945 per night.

North Island Resort, Seychelles

north island seychelles

Notable honeymooners: Prince and Princess of Wales

Offering just 11 villas on one of the most remote corners of the Seychelles, it’s easy to see why the uber-luxurious resort of North Island was the honeymoon destination of some of the world’s most public figures: Prince William and Kate Middleton. After their landmark wedding at Westminster Abbey in 2011, the future king and queen spent 10 days soaking up all of the R&R this Indian Ocean archipelago has to offer, and it marked their return to the Seychelles after a holiday in Desroches just four years earlier when they started dating.

Boasting a 10-1 staff-to-guest ratio, each of these villas have been beautifully handcrafted with reclaimed Takamaka trees and feature private pools, direct beach access and open-air living. Elsewhere, expect pampering spa treatments, relaxed fine dining and a plethora of water sports and activities to keep you thoroughly entertained on your barefoot escape.

From £7,700 per night.

Jamaica Inn, Jamaica

Notable honeymooners: Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller

Spread over eight acres, with a 700-foot private white sand beach considered to be one of the best in the Caribbean, Jamaica Inn has been a firm favourite amongst a sophisticated set ever since Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller chose to honeymoon there in 1957 (and in suite 21, to be specific). And we can see why. Nestled just east of Ocho Rios within a secluded, sandy cove, the Morrow family has owned Jamaica Inn for more than 65 years, mastering the art of combining discreet privacy with heartfelt personalised service.

The 55 finely furnished suites, cottages and beachfront villas boast uninterrupted views of the Caribbean Sea, but the jewel in the crown is the seven luxury cottages set on their own peninsula featuring private plunge pools, outdoor showers and direct access to the ocean. Dining at Jamaica Inn is an elegant affair, enjoyed alfresco on the terrace or at the new Teddy’s Grill on the beach, with a daily changing menu and live music.

From £495 per night.

Le Sirenuse, Italy

Notable honeymooners: Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth

Italy has long been a destination for romantics – but it doesn’t get more enchanting than the coastal enclave of Positano. Situated on the Amalfi Coast, it has drawn an A-list crowd for decades, including Amazon mogul Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez, Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves, and stylish duo Jason Statham and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. In 2011, Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth honeymooned here and their hotel of choice – Le Sirenuse – has since become one of the most sought-after stays in the region.

Owned by the Sersale family and part of The Leading Hotels of the World (LHW) portfolio, the palazzo was reimagined into a five-star, 58-key hotel in 1951 and still features majolica-tiled rooms filled with museum-worthy antiques, hand-picked largely by patriarch Franco Sersale. Complete with Eau d’Italie – Le Sirenuse’s own toiletries brand designed to capture the heady scents of Positano – and beautiful vistas of the sea, retreat to one of the 58 suites or while away the hours at La Sponda or Aldo’s terracotta terrace. The old-school Don’t Worry Bar harks back to the heyday of hotel bars and serves every aperitif and digestif you can imagine. One Dolce Vita (the hotel’s take on a French 75) coming right up.

From £715 per night.

Singita Faru Faru Lodge, Tanzania

Notable honeymooners: Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel

Singita safari specialists have countless gorgeous camps across the African plains – but the Faru Faru Lodge in Tanzania made the cut for Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel after they tied the knot in Italy’s southern coastal region of Puglia in 2012. The week-long honeymoon saw the couple stay at two luxury lodges in the Serengeti, where they enjoyed game drives, guided safari walks, a hot air balloon ride, and serious relaxation at the nine-key Faru Faru Lodge.

Shaped naturally around a watering hole, the architecture is striking and magical, featuring a neutral palette of sandstone and clay to form its open-air living and dining areas. There’s a wellness centre, gym and two swimming pools in the main lodge area, but, as is standard at many safari camps, mobile signal is limited and you will be hard pressed to find a TV here. If you’re looking to switch off after wedding chaos, this could be the destination for you.

From £2,200 per night.

The Beverly Hills Hotel, Los Angeles

Notable honeymooners: Elizabeth Taylor

Opened in 1912, long before Los Angeles became what it is today, The Beverly Hills Hotel has become one of the world’s most legendary hideaways. Its starry status can be owed to Elizabeth Taylor, who spent six of her eight honeymoons at the hotel’s Legendary Bungalows. Offering the height of privacy – something which Taylor seriously valued – you can still book these storied sanctuaries today. Nestled within the hotel gardens, Bungalow 1 once belonged to Marilyn Monroe – and the hotel’s spa pays homage to her via the Marilyn Monroe Massage, promising a complete mind and body reset, perfect for that post-wedding relaxation – while Bungalow 3 was the home of billionaire Howard Hughes for more than 30 years.

Couples can soak up the Hollywood sunshine by the iconic hotel pool, framed by palm trees and the Beverly Hills skyline, and dine at the iconic Polo Lounge which has long been considered the epicentre of power dining in the city and blends classic American cuisine with an Italian twist. Plus, throughout the year, spaces within the hotel double up as art galleries, displaying never-before-seen prints of Old Hollywood stars as well as works by local talent. Also a favourite with the British Royal Family, book your honeymoon here to cement your own place in Hollywood history.

From £2,230 per night.
