Food Writers Festival, Spring Restaurant, 3-24 September

Every Monday throughout September, fans of food and writing can enjoy talks from much-loved food writers at the impeccably stylish Spring restaurant in Somerset House. The esteemed line-up includes Kay Plunkett-Hogge, Skye McAlpine, Rosie Birkett and Olia Hercules, who will discuss a range of topics from personal recipes to favourite restaurants. Each talk will include a light afternoon tea and a selection of drinks, as well as readings from the writers’ books and Q&As.

London Design Festival, 15-23 September

London Design Festival returns this month, celebrating the capital’s London’s diverse and impressive design scene with a week of innovative design projects and installations. Skandium is creating an Eco Townhouse in South Kensington, showcasing an array of eco-friendly Danish design. Further highlights include Alphabet by Kellenberger-White, which is a typography-inspired installation in Broadgate and commissioned by British Land, Dazzle by graphic design studio Pentagram at the V&A, and a site-specific immersive exhibition at Sketch in Mayfair.

London Fashion Week, 14-17 September

Celebrate London Fashion Week in the capital with Anya Hindmarch’s wonderfully immersive Chubby Clouds installation, which will playfully transform Banqueting House in Westminster into a room full of clouds, crafted from beanbags. You can also visit a one-day exhibition on Monday 17 September celebrating the 30th anniversary of Jenny Packham, held at the Jenny Packham townhouse on Carlos Place in Mayfair. One of our favourite florists, By Appointment Only, is transforming the façade and interiors into a floral masterpiece for the occasion.

The Jewellery Cut, 17-18 September

Join the Jewellery Cut for two days of jewels, live talks, champagne and shopping at the heart of London’s Old Bond Street this September. Shop designer jewellery at a range of prices, from fashion jewels starting from £30 right up to bespoke gold creations. There will also be a series of masterclasses offering insights into diamonds, jewellery designs and trends. John Virtue, Fortnum & Mason & Frank Cohen, from 10 September

As part of the collaboration between well-known art collector Frank Cohen and Fortnum & Mason, the store will be exhibiting more than 60 works by abstract landscape painter John Virtue. The artist’s large-scale black and white canvases, created using a mix of white acrylic paint, black ink and shellac, will provide a provocative juxtaposition among the iconic Fortnum’s colours and gilt. The works chosen include abstract landscapes that challenge the viewer to see beyond the paint to make out landmark sites, such as London’s St Paul’s Cathedral, London Eye and The Gherkin.

The Story of Us and Them by Conor Harrington, HENI Gallery, from 14 September

The Story of Us and Them is a new exhibition at the HENI Gallery in Soho by Irish-born, London-based artist Conor Harrington. Opening mid-September, the exhibition focusses on renewed nationalism and controversial policies that lead to division, and the mentality of an ‘us and them’ society. Harrington is known for his expressive oil paintings and graffiti-style murals, which mix classical and contemporary art.

Elusive Space, Paul Feiler; The Way She Sees It, Catherine Armitage, The Redfern Gallery, from 26 September

There’s a double-dose of excellent art at the Redfern Gallery in Mayfair this month. A retrospective of the late Paul Feiler’s work will mark 100 years since the painter’s birth. Often inspired by the coastline of Cornwall, the display will span different decades of Feiler’s career. Running concurrently on the lower gallery is the work of his widow Catharine Armitage, who painted alongside the artist and will be showcasing a series of new paintings.

Jazz Brunch at Tate Britain, every Saturday in September

Head to Tate Britain on Saturdays throughout September for brunch with a toe-tapping twist.
