Frieze, London Restaurant Festival, London Cocktail Week and PAD art fair all star in this month's 'what's on' extravaganza 

Frieze London, Regents Park

Frieze London returns to Regent’s Park for a diverse art extravaganza this month, featuring more than 160 galleries and fairs. Established artists sit alongside emerging talent, and visitors can also quench their thirst at the Ruinart Art Bar. Look out for an immersive light and sound experience by Chris Levine, located in Park Village Studios, near to the main Frieze tent. London Cocktail Week, across London

Forget sober October – London Cocktail Week returns this month for a seven-day celebration of mixology in the capital. More than 250 bars in London are creating cocktail serves for the occasion, all priced at £6. Start with a zesty St Germain elderflower liqueur libation at Bournes & Hollingsworth in Angel; try a tantalising tequila-based tipple at Rumpus Room, enjoy a multi-sesory experience at The Light Room by The London Essence Company, and finish up at the Cocktail Village in Old Truman Brewery, where pop-up bars and parties abound all week. Buy a digital access pass, priced at £10, to join the action.

Join Hugo Boss for an Exclusive Event

Join Hugo Boss on the 4 October 2018 at the Sloane Street boutique to celebrate the unveiling of a new piece of work by British artist Graham Dolphin, created in collaboration with the luxury fashion brand. The artwork celebrates Hugo Boss’ sponsorship of the Michael Jackson: Off the Wall exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery and pays tribute to the iconic Hugo Boss white suit, famously worn by Jackson on the Thriller album cover in 1982. On the evening, enjoy a talk between Graham Dolphin and Lucy Dahlsen, curator at the National Portrait Gallery and peruse a new collection that celebrates the late King of Pop.

The Maiyet Collective, Mayfair

The Conduit is Mayfair’s newest members’ club with a difference, with a focus on sustainability and social impact. This month, luxury fashion brand, Maiyet, is unveiling its first concept store within The Conduit club, open for just three days per month to members and non-members alike. The Maiyet Collective pop-up will feature an array of ethically-focussed and innovative fashion, jewellery and lifestyle brands. Ideal for gift-shopping, or treating yourself this autumn.

The Wider Earth, Natural History Museum

The Wider Earth makes its European debut this October at the new Jerwood Theatre at the Natural History Museum, following a sell-out run in Australia. The award-winning production is written and directed by Dead Puppet Society’s David Morton and tells the story of Charles Darwin through music, puppetry and performance. A stellar line-up of actors, including War Horse stars Matt Tait, Ian Houghton and Andrew Bridgmont, take to the stage alongside 30 extraordinary hand-made puppets.

BFI London Film Festival, across London

The London Film Festival, hosted by the British Film Institute, returns to the capital this October for a 12-day celebration of British and international cinema. Highlights this year include Widows, directed by Steve McQueen; The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, starring James Franco and Stan & Ollie with Steve Coogan. You can also enjoy a screen talk at the BFI Southbank with Keira Knightly, discussing her role in new Belle Époque-era biopic Colette.

Tiffany & Co. Outset Studiomakers Prize Exhibition, Covent Garden

Tiffany has announced the winners of its much sought-after Outset Studiomakers Prize, which awards seven MA Fine Art graduates with free studio space for a whole year. This year’s winners span a variety of mediums, from print and textiles to jewellery design, and were chosen by a panel of esteemed judges including Jenni Lomax, former director of Camden Arts Centre. An exhibition of the winners’ work will be on display until the 14 October at the Tiffany & Co. Concept Store in Covent Garden.

PAD Art Fair, Berkeley Square

As part of Frieze Week 2018, PAD – Pavillion of Art and Design – will be pitching its tent in leafy Berkeley Square this October for six days of fine and modern art, photography, sculpture and design from an international array of acclaimed galleries. London Restaurant Festival

The London Restaurant Festival, now in its tenth year, celebrates the capital’s diverse and international dining scene. More than 400 restaurants in London are hosting exclusive events and offering great value menus throughout the month-long festival, including eateries in the newly-revamped Battersea Power Station; Galvan La Chapelle in Spitalfields and Tredwells in Covent Garden. London Literature Festival, Southbank

Calling all book lovers: read your way through October at the London Literature Festival at the Southbank Centre. Welcoming an assortment of esteemed writers and critics, this year’s festival is a celebration of Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey and its first-ever translation into English by a woman, Emily Wilson. The enduring Greek classic is explored through readings, workshops and conversations, suitable for all ages. The festival also celebrates new fiction, non-fiction and memoir releases and welcomes established writers including Sally Field andMadeline Miller.

Anni Albers Retrospective, Tate Modern

The UK’s first retrospective on one of the world’s most prolific hand-weavers, the Tate Modern’s Anni Albers exhibition will look at how the German artist wove a narrative with her rainbow creations. More than 350 of her designs will be on display, including several works that explore the relationship between architecture and textiles.

Oktoberfest

Don your dirndl and have a Bavarian beer party in London this month at Oktoberfest. Brixton Jamm will be hosting German beer parties on the first three Saturdays of the month, while Heist Bank in Paddington will be celebrating with an array of brews from the UK, Scandinavia and Australasia (12-14 October). Millwell Park in Canary Wharf (4-14 October) and Finsbury Park (18-31 October) in North London will each be transformed into a German beer festival, with a bounty of food, beer and lederhosen.
