Celebrate summer in the capital with foodie festivals, polo, art, opera and a motor show in the City  

Hampton Court Palace Festival

Hampton Court Palace Festival is an annual music event that takes place for two weeks in June within the historic grounds of the Palace, against the dramatic backdrop of the Tudor courtyard. This year’s anticipated line-up includes The Beach Boys, Tom Jones, Jools Holland and The Philharmonic Orchestra, accompanied by fine food, PIAFF Champagne and fireworks.

London Concours

Roar into summer in style with the fastest cars in the world. Held on the manicured lawns of the Honourable Artillery Company, London Concours is an automotive garden party like no other,. The world’s rarest and greatest motors will be on display alongside fine food, drinks and entertainment.

Chesterton’s Polo in the Park

Head to Hurlingham Park in Fulham this June for three days of polo tournaments. Teams from six cities around the world will compete over three days and spectators can enjoy a minimum of three games per day. The event – now in its ninth year – includes a grand line-up of restaurants and bars, accompanied by a variety of family-friendly entertainment.

Hidden London

Hidden London continues throughout June, offering a chance to discover London’s lesser-known attractions and historic spaces. Organised by the London Transport Museum, visitors can explore a curious labyrinth of disused stations and secret sites, as well as taking part in exclusive tours and events.

Opera Holland Park

Opera Holland Park – an independent charity – presents a festival of staged productions each year to be enjoyed by all. Held in a canopied auditorium behind Holland Park House, Investec Opera Holland Park 2018 features a mix of established artists and rising stars, as well as the Opera Holland Park Chorus and City of London Sinfonia. There is plenty food and drink on site, alongside hospitality options.

Serpentine Pavilion

The Serpentine Gallery Pavilion is a unique series that presents the work of an international architect (or design team) who has never before completed a building in England. This year’s pavilion is designed by Mexican architect Frida Escobedo, who has created a steel and concrete woven masterpiece.

Open Garden Squares

Open Garden Squares allows members of the public access to more than 230 private and secret gardens. The popular event is run by the London Parks and Garden trust, and a portion of each ticket sold is returned to the community and volunteer-run gardens.

Trooping the Colour

This historic military parade has been taking place for over two centuries to mark the Queen’s official birthday. Performed by regiments of the British and Commonwealth armies, the ceremony begins at Buckingham Palace and extends along The Mall to Horse Guard’s Parade, Whitehall and back.

Household Division’s Beating Retreat

Set against a backdrop of St James’s Park, Beating Retreat is an annual pageant of music and military precision, which precedes the Trooping the Colour festivities. Expect a celebratory evening of horses, cannons, fireworks, music and marching, finishing with the lowering of the Regimental flag at sunset.

Summer Screens at Canary Wharf

Catch the latest sporting events and more at the Summer Screens pop-up in Canary Wharf. Sit al-fresco on the lawn and enjoy screenings of both the World Cup and Wimbledon. Refreshments will be served from The Grandstand Bar, a summer-long pop-up serving carefully selected wines, a choice of lagers, spirits and soft drinks.

Royal Ascot

Head to leafy Berkshire this June for a week of world-class racing, fashion, fine dining and pageantry. The grand day out attracts racehorses from around the world to compete for over £6.5 million in prize money, while well-heeled guests cheer on the races, champagne flute in hand.

Greenwich and Docklands International Festival

One of London’s largest free outdoor art festivals, this celebration of theatre and performing arts runs in locations across Greenwich, The Royal Docks and Tower Hamlets. The 17-day run will feature more than 130 performances with this year’s highlights including seven world premieres; three UK premieres and the return of Greenwich Fair.

Orlando Bloom on Stage

Star of stage and screen, Orlando Bloom return to theatre throughout June, playing the lead character in Tracy Lett’s dark comedy thriller, Killer Joe. The play will run for 13 weeks at Trafalgar Studios 1 in Westminster.

Aiden Turner on Stage

Like Orlando Bloom, TV star Aiden Turner is set to return to his theatre roots this year in The Lieutenant of Inishmore. The revival of Martin McDonagh’s critically acclaimed play opens at the Noël Coward Theatre on 4th July, with previews from 23rd June.
