Start your weekend with a bang thanks to the Tipsy King cocktail by Langan's, featuring notes of watermelon and chilli

Mayfair is home to some of London’s most celebrated institutions, and few are more iconic than Langan’s. Situated within Stratton House, opposite Green Park station, the acclaimed restaurant and bar opened in 1976 as a joint venture between Sir Michael Caine, Peter Langan and Michelin-starred chef Richard Shepherd. It, rather unsurprisingly, soon gained traction among the international social set, welcoming the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Elton John, Princess Margaret, Mick Jagger and Mohammad Ali through its ruby-red doors.

Although the restaurant was closed and relaunched in 2021 under new ownership, it still oozes as much glamour and sophistication as it did 48 years ago. As Langan himself once said: “You are not coming to our restaurant on the way to the show or after the show: you are the show” – and luckily for Londoners visiting today, that still rings true.

Whether you have celebrity status or not, book Langan’s to be guaranteed impeccable service and theatrical dining, and head upstairs to discover the private members’ club celebrating the heyday of Studio 54, resplendent in yellow velvet panelling with plush, retro fittings. In our opinion, there are few better places to while away an evening, especially with a cocktail in hand.

Having recently spruced up its mixology menu, highlights include the Hiball Meuniere – a nod to the classic French meunière sauce and infused Bulleit Bourbon with a rim crafted from crushed almonds and strawberries – and the Tipsy King, a surefire way to spice up any evening with a mix of Casamigos Blanco tequila and watermelon and chilli cordial. If you’re looking to kick off your weekend with a bang, read on to discover how you can recreate the Tipsy King at home.
