Gin Garden cocktail recipe by Story Cellar
While Story Cellar is famous for its food, it would be remiss not to try its seriously delectable cocktails. Case in point: Gin Garden
A cool, laidback younger sister to Tom Sellers’ two Michelin-starred Restaurant Story (which reopened its doors in Bermondsey earlier this year), Story Cellar is the aforementioned chef’s reimagining of a sophisticated rotisserie restaurant, set in the heart of Covent Garden. Having launched last year, it’s proven it has both style and substance – something which can be hard to find among the West End’s tourist trap restaurants – and has found a solid fanbase in those who can’t get enough of high-end crispy chicken, fries and steaks (need we say more?!).
But enough about the food, you’re reading this for tips about the tipples. And, luckily for diners at Story Cellar, the cocktail menu is the brainchild of Jonathan Kleeman, group beverage manager at the Michelin-starred sister restaurant, meaning the serves here are nothing short of innovative, delicious and, above all, fun.
On the new autumn menu, expect to spot the Flintlocke, a cocktail mixed with banana rum and sparkling wine. Light pink in colour and made with bubbles, it’s a lesser-known option that will undoubtedly be popular come Christmas, while the Gin Garden cocktail is a refreshing gin-based serve with elderflower, mint, dill, cucumber and lemon. Its striking green colour and light and fragrant flavour make it a crowd pleaser – and one that’s perfect for recreating at home this season.

“I originally designed the Gin Garden cocktail to pair with Restaurant Story’s scallop dish where elderflower, cucumber and dill were particularly important ingredients, nodding to chef Sellers’ time working at Noma in Copenhagen,” says Kleeman. “The drink then evolved over time to become a staple cocktail at Restaurant Story and now has its own version at Story Cellar. The Gin Garden’s popularity has also been helped due to the fact that it can easily be adapted into a non-alcoholic version, which we also serve at Story Cellar.” Discover the recipe below.
