Not in the holiday spirit just yet? We have a surefire recipe that will get you in the festive mood

Can you feel it? It’s not even December but festive cheer has definitely arrived in London. As shoppers descend on Regent Street, restaurants prepare for festive feasting, and hotels pull out all the stops for those in town for Christmas, immersing yourself in the holiday spirit is almost inescapable.

Those still resisting the holly jolly fever, however, should look to a delectable East London bar to get them feeling festive. Bokan – spanning the 37th to 39th floors of Novotel London in Canary Wharf – comprises a two AA Rosette-winning restaurant with menus inspired by rich European cuisines, a main bar boasting floor-to-ceiling windows and, for when the sun is shining, a rooftop terrace.

At the bar on floor 38, discover an innovative cocktail menu that pays homage to the history of Canary Wharf, with tipples inspired by the West India Docks, East India Docks, Millwall Dock and Gwilt’s Warehouse, alongside unique sharing vessels taking their cues from the Blackwell Levels. For December, the bar has unveiled the ultimate holiday season tipple: Christmas Delight, an indulgent treat curated by bar manager, Generoso D’Avino.

Blending rum with sweet amaretto, cream, and rich chocolate, expect a smooth, nutty taste with a hint of sweetness. D’Avino says, “This recipe is inspired by the treasured winter moments we associate Christmas with: sitting in front of a fireplace, enjoying good food, and a festive aroma of sweet and spicy scents filling the air. This drink layers rich double cream and rum with hints of chocolate and cinnamon, and is perfect for savouring slowly.” Here’s how to recreate it at home.

Christmas Delight

  • Serves 1

Ingredients

  • Brugal 1888 rum 35ml
  • Amaretto 15ml
  • Double cream 50ml
  • Cinnamon syrup 15ml
  • Chocolate bitters 3 drops

Method

  1. Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well.
  2. Strain into a glass.
  3. Add a festive flower garnish.
