With a bevy of spectacular events on the schedule, including the Trooping of the Colour, the RAF flyover, the Platinum Jubilee Pageant and the Platinum Party at the Palace, London is the place to be during the long Platinum Jubilee weekend. And, with a host of satellite celebrations, street parties and special menus also popping up across the capital, allow us to help you sort the wheat from the chaff.

One such event well worth your time is Superbloom, which will see the moat at the Tower of London rewilded with more than 20 million wildflower seeds. Designed to attract pollinating insects and provide a biodiverse habitat for wildlife, it promises to be a natural oasis in the heart of the city.

What better, then, to inspire a lavish afternoon tea at the nearby Pan Pacific London hotel? Hosted in the appropriately named Orchid Lounge, which will be given a royal makeover for the Platinum Jubilee with an abundance of wildflowers of its own, Executive Pastry Chef Cherish Finden has reimagined the hotel’s already popular afternoon tea with an array of delectable floral-inspired treats.

To kick things off, raise a toast to Her Majesty with a glass of Gusbourne English Sparkling Wine or non-alcoholic bubbly before making your selection from the hotel’s extensive menu of Rare Tea Company blends. Then it’s time to tuck into a plate of delicate finger sandwiches, including Coronation chicken on harissa bread, smoked salmon with mustard butter on brown bread and wafer cucumber with cream cheese on caraway bread.

Sweet treats come in the form of traditional golden raisin and plain scones served with clotted cream, strawberry preserve, and kaya jam, in a nod to the hotel’s Asian heritage, alongside a top plate of exquisite pastries adorned with Jubilee-themed motifs. Expect picture-perfect delights including the Wild Rose (English rose macaron with strawberry and lime jelly), the Tower of London (pistachio financier with mascarpone and raspberry) and the Queen ‘Honey’ Bee (heather flower honey, chocolate sponge and pecan praline). These are accompanied by a series of playful finishing touches including street party-inspired candy floss, a tea and biscuit flavoured amuse bouche and shortbread in the form of that most regal of icons: the Corgi.

As a final flourish, each Superbloom afternoon tea guest will be gifted a sachet of wildflower seeds to plant at home as a memento of their experience, while also being offered the opportunity to scan a QR code for the chance to win a host of exclusive experiences at the Pan Pacific London. And if making the trip home after all that decadence feels like far too much effort? There are 237 gorgeous rooms and suites upstairs ready and waiting for you.

Superbloom Afternoon Tea at the Pan Pacific London is available until 31 August 2022, priced at £72 per person or £82 per person including a glass of Gusbourne sparkling wine or French Bloom non-alcoholic sparkling wine. Visit panpacificlondon.com to book.
