If you’re looking for a way of celebrating a birthday or anniversary during lockdown – or simply want to inject a little glamour into your stay-at-home routine – The Dorchester may have the answer.

On 1 June, the Mayfair-based hotel will launch its at-home Traditional Afternoon Tea Hamper. Inside a really rather well-made hamper (that you get to keep – perfect for social-distanced picnics), finger sandwiches include egg mayonnaise and English asparagus, oak-smoked salmon and Buddha mayonnaise, and, what no proper afternoon tea would be without, cucumber and cream cheese.

There’s raisin and plain scones, The Dorchester’s own rose jam, Cornish clotted cream, and a selection of too-pretty-to-eat-until-you’ve-taken-a-zillion-of-pictures-of-them pastries. A bergamot tart is flavoured with 60 per cent grand cru dark chocolate; an apricot, almond and vanilla slice comes coated in white chocolate. For an additional cost, they’ll throw in a 375ml bottle of Veuve Cliquot Yellow Label Brut, too.

The Traditional Afternoon Tea Hamper is part of the hotel’s The Dorchester at Home series, which, elsewhere, gives you the chance to make you own beef wellington or a take on head chef Tom Booton’s lobster thermidor tart. Deliveries come with recipe cards created by the hotel’s chefs, with advice on how to create the perfect Dorchester dining experience at home.

A percentage of the proceeds from sales of The Dorchester at Home will be donated to Manorfield Primary, a school based in Tower Hamlets with which The Dorchester has run a CSR partnership since 2019.
