Festival season is officially upon us. Whether you’re heading off to sun-drenched fields abroad for an indie weekender or are one of the 210,000 lucky ticket holders going to Glastonbury this year, one thing’s for sure: your outfit choices are as important as the line-up. From sequins to suedes, cowboy boots to crochet, festival fashion is all about embracing a party-ready, carefree spirit and being brave in your fashion choices (maybe even wearing something you’d never normally dare be seen in, no judgment here).
While sparkly, playful, cool-girl styles take centre stage, practicality still deserves a look in. After all, nothing kills a vibe quicker than soggy toes or sunburn. The solution? Think about fashion with function – outfits that will make a statement but allow you to last all day (and night) on your feet. Ensembles that are fun and daring but weather-appropriate, super-chic but a little bit sensible too. From boho chic to rodeo cowgirl and disco diva, from sunshine-ready looks to rainy-day saviours, scroll on for the ultimate festival outfit inspiration.
Boho chic
A classic festival look, and a popular SS25 trend, there’s no better time to channel the free-spirited, laissez-faire, Sienna-Miller-eat-your-heart-out, boho chic look than at a festival. Think tassels and fringing, suede and floaty layers. Maje’s camel co-ord will have you ready to rock and roll all day and night, while Ba&sh’s three-toned striped top and a pair of frayed black shorts will make a bohemian statement.
Disco diva
If there’s ever a time to don your sparkliest sparkles, it’s at a festival. Choose a striking skirt and top combination, like Ila’s sequin mini skirt and Tory Burch’s bodysuit, or go full-out disco diva with a dress like the below from Missoni. Complete the look with Jimmy Fairly’s killer heart-shaped sunglasses for ultimate style points.
Rodeo cowgirl
Another festival fail-safe is the cowgirl look. Whether that’s playing with accessories or going full-on rodeo from head to toe, it oozes country and western, ready to party, cool girl vibes. Pair classic denim shorts with a crystal-embellished top (we’re looking to 7 For All Mankind and Good American Vintage), and complete with a cowboy hat and boots (make Melissa Odabash and Penelope Chilvers your go-tos).
Sporty spirit
For a more laidback, casual and highly comfortable festival style, look to your sporty side. Slip on a simple tank top from Loewe with a pair of cool shorts (we love this design from Adidas and Wales Bonner’s collaboration) and throw on a baseball cap and trainers to pull off an athletic, youthful look.
Girly girl
Love a feminine style? Opt for a cute dress, like Reformation’s Babette style in cherry red, and match with Sandro’s bohemian patterned scrunchie and Gucci’s heart-shaped sunnies for a playful look. The finishing touch? A pair of sparkly earrings that are delicate but fun, like Laura Vann’s Bianca style.
Sunny day
If the weather is on your side, embrace the sunshine in a bright and summery outfit that best highlights your burgeoning tan. Choose something bold and bright, like Kitri’s rainbow-hued dress and pair with a cute (and practical) straw hat and statement sunglasses. Just don’t forget to lather on the suncream.
Rainy day
Don’t let bad weather dampen your spirits, or style. You can still rock a chic festival look while being prepared for whatever the dark clouds throw at you. Don your finest outfit and take your welly boots and raincoat game up a notch with Burberry and 66° North. Finish with Rains' waterproof bucket hat to make sure everyday is a good hair day.
