As we bid farewell to the AW25 fashion month, spring arrives with a fresh new look. Long gone will be the days of huddling in puffer coats and winter boots and we will, instead, welcome in chic pieces fit for the new season. From delicate, whimsical and feminine trends to the era of maximalism and bright, joyful, colourful dressing, we’ve got the inside track on the SS25 trends the style set are favouring this season.
Debuted back in September 2024 across London, Paris, Milan and New York Fashion Weeks, the spring collections from the world’s greatest designers are finally dropping – but what is worth investing in and what is merely a flash in the pan? Here are the key SS25 trends to know about and the pieces to add to your wardrobe now. You’re welcome.
Maximalist fashion
Burberry SS25
Etro SS25
A cacophony of different colours, prints and textured fabrics – the more, the merrier – maximalist fashion is back. Your reference here is Alessandro Michele’s work for Valentino, where there was no such thing as too much. It’s about layering on contrasting items in unusual patterns, clashing shades and quirky shapes and silhouettes. Think extravagant. Skirts over jeans, animal print with leather, oversized tops and wide leg trousers – each item adds another dimension. Of course, accessorising with bold statement jewellery is a given to take the trend that bit further. Also seen at Etro, Louis Vuitton, and Burberry, it’s no wonder that searches for ‘maximalism’ are on the rise (in February alone, they increased by more than 69 per cent in a single week).

Romanticism

Michael Kors SS25
Thanks to the likes of Simone Rocha and Michael Kors, romanticism has become one of SS25’s leading trends. Describing ultra-feminine pieces that are floaty and ruffled, whimsical and elegant, lacy and sophisticated, romanticism is pretty as it is chic (which doesn’t mean it can’t be seductive and sexy – you strike the balance). Simone Rocha showcased ideas of love and femininity through tutu skirts and sheer gowns, while Michael Kors went for A-line florals, bardot necklines and plenty of beautiful intricate embroidery. Channel your inner ballerina or Austen heroine and you’ll be on the right track.

Power Dressing
Akris SS25
Dior SS25
A modern take on power dressing offers up fresh new styles for the office this season. Take your workwear up a notch with sharp, polished tailoring exuding strength and the aura of someone who means serious business. Think strong block colours – Dior put monochrome in the spotlight – with spick and span tailoring. Jil Sander embodied the look with wide leg trousers and playful loafers for an elevated everyday style that epitomises empowered urban chic. Go for smart styles, sophisticated cuts and crisp fits to nail the look.

Boho vibes
Zimmermann SS25
Ralph Lauren SS25

It’s a put-together look with nonchalant flair. For inspiration look to Chloé, where models even went barefoot to show off the easy, breezy bohemian vibe.

Sports luxe
Ralph Lauren SS25
Ferrgamo SS25
Lovers of athleisure wear will enjoy this one – an elevated athletic look is in. Adopted by several fashion designers on the SS25 runways, including Miu Miu and Bottega Veneta, the vibe is a sporty aesthetic that doesn’t sacrifice on sophistication. Think bomber jackets, summery pleated skorts, and polo shirts teamed with louche tailoring and relaxed lines. It’s basically a grown-up PE kit with a whole lot more style.

The colours: mocha mousse, butter yellow and powder pink
Carolina Herrera SS25
Gucci SS25
Pantone’s 2025 Colour of the Year, mocha mousse, has naturally already infiltrated the fashion world. The SS25 collections were brimming with this chocolatey, coffee brown, offering up a warm tonal hue that flatters almost every skin tone – and we’re here for it. At the other end of the spectrum, bold mood-boosting colours are in, including butter yellow, oranges, reds and powder pinks. Soft tones that pack a punch, just look to the likes of Emilia Wickstead, Carolina Herrera and Gucci for a lesson in mastering the trend for fresh accents to lift the mood and elevate your ensemble with a nod to summer sunshine.

Polka dots and plaids
Valentino SS25
Kent Curwen SS25
Two trends that seem to come around time after time are polka dots and plaids. Classics that really are timeless, for SS25 they're returning in fun, bold and uncomplicated iterations on new silhouettes. Head back to the 1990s with checked, tartan patterns in silk and cotton that blend preppiness (a la Ralph Lauren’s SS25 collection) with a hint of nostalgic grunge. Alternatively, go for dalmatian-style spots in both bold and dainty designs, from occasion dresses to everyday two pieces, rendered all over for an impactful effect.

The key piece: leather jackets
Jil Sander SS25
Burberry SS25
Another cyclical trend, leather jackets are going nowhere for SS25. Bikers, aviators, long-line or cropped, they can finesse an outfit for style, substance and a little bit of sex appeal. Khaite and Bottega Veneta styled them on the runway with dresses, maxi skirts and jeans alike, demonstrating the leather jacket’s appeal for versatile, easy layering.

Accessories: pumps and clutches
Michael Kors SS25
Jil Sander SS25
An outfit is simply not an outfit without the right accessories. Instantly taking it from incomplete to perfected, adding accessories makes a world of difference to your look. Hot for SS25 are pumps (the heeled variety). An easy option to wear with anything and everything, from trousers to dresses, the classic slingback style is in, with pointed toes, minimal heels and all-day comfort. See Bottega Veneta and Gucci for inspiration. When it comes to bags – this season, we’ll all be reaching for clutches. An easy silhouette that takes you from day to night and into the early hours, this season experiment with proportions, mixing up classic boxy designs with oversized slouchy numbers and multifunctional designs with detachable straps.
