Karl Lagerfeld: A Life in Pictures

Creative polymath Karl Lagerfeld has died in Paris, aged 85

"I've always known that I was made to live this way, that I would be this sort of legend."

It takes a lot to halt the fashion world, particularly during the razzmatazz of fashion month. The industry stands still today however at the news that Karl Lagerfeld has passed away in Paris, aged 85.

Instantly recognisable by his slick, silver ponytail, dark sunglasses and fingerless gloves, Lagerfeld was the creative force behind Chanel for more than 35 years and Fendi for more than half a century, as well his own eponymous label. A rare remnant of fashion aristocracy, he was prolific in his achievements, vocal with his opinions and an unequivocal fashion genius.

In honour of his legacy, we look back in pictures on a rich life of relentless talent, extraordinary accomplishments and, of course, Choupette.
