I haven’t worn capri trousers since I fell in love with a floral-print pair from Mini Boden when I was about eight years old. But the thing about fashion is that what goes around comes back around eventually – in this case many years later. And it turns out I was on to something. Capri pants are this season’s cool, nostalgic throwback, and everyone from Hailey Bieber and Bella Hadid to Amanda Seyfried and Gwyneth Paltrow are fans.
A cropped silhouette cut just below the knee, capris are the perfect middle ground between shorts and trousers. This in-between style is typically more polished, with figure-hugging, tailored fits that give a smart, feminine feel, that can be dressed up or down.
Day in the office? I’d wear a block-coloured pair with a crisp white shirt and ballet flats, while for a weekend out with friends, I’d throw on a gingham-patterned pair with a T-shirt and trainers or mules for a more laidback, casual look. Come cocktail hour, I’m styling a slick black pair with a silky cami top and kitten heels for an evening look that is contemporary and elegant. Of course, when it comes to a warm-weather holiday, just look to capri trouser wearer supreme, Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday, for a touch of la dolce vita.
