Since Emily in Paris hit our screens in 2020, Lily Collins has become synonymous with her character’s OTT, colourful and borderline ridiculous outfits and, with season four returning in 2024, the pressure was on to produce red carpet looks that were befitting the show while also remaining true to the classic Old Hollywood style Collins typically prefers. For help, she turned to stylist Andrew Mukamal, who helped Collins level up her red carpet acumen with a series of couture looks from the likes of Tamara Ralph, Dior and Armani Privé. Typically eschewing Emily Cooper’s rainbow palette in favour of striking monochromes and interesting silhouettes and detailing. Add to that an ongoing ambassadorship with Cartier and you’ve got the makings of a timeless Hollywood fashion plate.

Bella Hadid may have taken a pause from the runways this year (save for a surprise appearance on the Saint Laurent runway in September) but that didn’t stop her pulling out some serious street style — which is ideal if you’re looking for a little inspiration for your own wardrobe. The bad news is, being a supermodel, everything looks good on Hadid so she’s a bit of a fashion chameleon, ticking off almost all of this year’s big trends, including Western, Nineties Revival and Coquette. In my humble opinion, however, Hadid is at her best in either cool girl tailoring or all-out red carpet glam.

A Chanel front row regular, budding Hollywood star and, of course, the model-esque offspring of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, 2024 was the year Lily-Rose Depp came into her own in the style department. While the press tour for Nosferatu saw her don a series of appropriately Victorian-inspired looks, Depp’s own style preferences tend to lean towards Eighties and Nineties-style gowns on the red carpet and Gen Z favourites, including mini skirts, crop tops and low rise jeans, off duty. Watch this space, Depp is fashion force to be reckoned with.

Somewhat incredibly, the original cool girl Chloë Sevigny turned 50 this year — becoming the perfect demonstration that, if you have impeccable personal style, age really means nothing when it comes to fashion. Favouring designers and looks that are as unique and interesting as the roles in indie films she typically plays, for much of this year Sevigny has been working with stylist Haley Wollens to create a series of don’t-you-wish-you’d-worn-that moments with pieces from designers including Phoebe Philo, Saint Laurent, and Dilara Findikoglu. As ever, Sevigny remains one of the most original style influences around.

The Twisters press tour was a veritable (ahem) whirlwind of fabulous fashion moments for British actress Daisy Edgar-Jones. Having switched from long-term stylist Nicky Yates to the Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber-approved Dani Michelle earlier this year, Edgar-Jones’ style has taken on a vintage-with-a-contemporary-twist vibe. Think draped Chloé chiffon gowns, Seventies-inspired Gucci leather, and asymmetric Victoria Beckham dresses. This is what happens when a star finds a stylist who really gets them.

Having given birth to her second child in August 2023, Rihanna has spent much of this year out of the spotlight, tending to her growing family and incredibly successful business empire. The few times she was spotted out and about, however, were more than enough to land her the penultimate place on our best dressed list. After all, the turquoise vintage Christian Lacroix feathers she wore to the Fashion Awards and the pearl bodysuit and chainmail shawl she donned for Alaïa’s SS25 show at the Guggenheim were all anyone could talk about the day after.
