Golden Globes 2025: The must-see red carpet looks
First day back at work tomorrow? Chances are you’re still in a post-Christmas Baileys and chocolate orange-induced daze, dreading that 7am alarm and wondering if you can get away with ‘dressing up’ your yoga leggings for the office. Spare a thought, then, for those poor hard-working celebs forced to drag themselves out of their festive slumber, don sparkly gowns and velvet tuxes and hit the red carpet in the hope of adding a gong to their trophy cabinet. That’s right, awards season is back and we’re kicking things off with the Golden Globes 2025 red carpet.
So, who’s in contention for an award and, more importantly, who is likely to be pulling out all the stops when it comes to couture? With Dune: Part Two, A Complete Unknown and Challengers all up for Best Motion Picture, red carpet risk-takers Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya (our best dressed woman of 2024) will be leading the style pack. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, meanwhile, are likely to be continuing their Wicked cosplay in dramatic ballgowns and we’ll be looking to Tilda Swinton, Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman for lessons in understated yet sophisticated event dressing.
Stay tuned as we bring you all the must-see looks from the Golden Globes 2025 red carpet as they happen.
Nicole Kidman in Balenciaga
Image: Omega/Getty
Nicole Kidman went full diva mode in a shimmering custom gown by Balenciaga. The draping is lovely and suits her style preferences perfectly but the real story here is the accessories – all of which are vintage including an archival Omega Art Nouveau watch from 1920. Stunning.
Daniel Craig in Giorgio Armani
Image: Omega/Getty
It’s no secret that Daniel Craig looks good in a suit but the former 007 has had quite the high fashion glow up over the past year. Case in point: this velvet double-breasted Armani tux with matching waistcoat and Omega dress watch. Bonus points for pulling off the ‘cool dad’ tinted glasses.
Eddie Redmayne in Valentino
Image: Valentino/Getty
Eddie Redmayne has never been one to shy away from a red carpet statement so it follows that he’d be top of Alessandro Michele’s list for celeb dressing. This is really rather great. Picking ecru rather than pristine white for the shirt was a great choice and the mandarin collar adds a point of difference without demanding too much of its wearer. More of this please Mr Redmayne.
Jeremy Strong in Loro Piana
Image: Loro Piana/Kevin Mazur/Getty
Sure, a teal bucket hat and grandad sunglasses for the Golden Globes is a choice, but when said hat is rendered in plush Loro Piana velvet and paired with a matching suit, it becomes quite the look. Green was a popular choice for men on the Golden Globes red carpet and this was undoubtedly the most talked about look of them all. I really rather like it, though one does have to wonder about the practicalities of a cashmere turtleneck in the LA heat – perhaps one better saved for the BAFTAs in hindsight.
Zendaya in Louis Vuitton
Image: Alamy
Nominated in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category, we always knew Zendaya would pull it out of the bag when it game to the gown. This burnt orange hue looks spectacular on her and it’s testament to her fashion nous that she can lug around a mantua made of that much satin without it overwhelming. Love, love, love the Elizabeth Taylor hair and jewellery.
Zahara and Angelina Jolie in Alexander McQueen
Image: Alexander McQueen
A beautiful mother-daughter moment made all the more special by two spectacular Alexander McQueen dresses. Tricky all-over embroidery in a tough metallic hue has become something of a staple for Angelina Jolie on the red carpet and, you know what, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. (But props for throwing on some great Messika jewellery for good measure.) Zahara’s dress is youthful, elegant and with just a touch of the dark whimsy that McQueen is known for.
Anya Taylor-Joy in Dior
Image: Dior/Getty
Anya Taylor-Joy attended the Golden Globes purely in a presenting capacity so it makes sense that she would choose something a little more low key than if she was in the running for a gong herself. This is pretty and on trend but the colour, fabric and matching shawl possibly tip her slightly over the line into bridesmaid territory. Love that Tiffany & Co. necklace.
Cynthia Erivo in Louis Vuitton
Image: Alamy
Let’s hope the Beverly Hills Hotel has extra-wide door frames because Miss Cynthia and her panniers are holding space for the Golden Globes. In all seriousness, she looks fantastic and I need the numbers of both her personal trainer and her Louis Vuitton tailor because this fits like a glove. Unlike some of her Wicked tour looks, this is on theme without veering into cosplay and that fabric is gorgeous. If this is what she’s offering up at the Golden Globes I can’t wait to see what she keeping in reserve for the Oscars.
Ariana Grande in vintage Givenchy Couture
Image: Alamy
Honestly, this is a bit of miss in my opinion. After the OTT fashion of the Wicked press tour I was expecting some frothy pink Elie Saab confection which, while obvious, at least wouldn’t have blended into the backdrop. Instead, Grande has picked a vintage 1966 Givenchy Couture empire-line dress and, while I’m easily swayed by vintage on the red carpet, this is a beautiful piece of never-before-worn fashion history that was apparently chosen purely for being, in Grande’s own words, “yellow, like the yellow brick road”. To my eyes, the fit is a little off and the washed out colour does nothing for her skin tone while the white gloves lend everything a dressing up box vibe. Thank you, next.
Andrew Garfield in Gucci
Image: Gucci/Getty
This one is likely to be a bit Marmite. Personally, I love the idea but think the execution is poor. While the little slits in the trousers are, frankly, a bit silly, the cut and colour of the suit is great and the Western lapels are a nice touch. But if you’re going to wear a double-breasted suit at least do it up until you’re inside – it’s too formal a silhouette to be modelled in the causal manner Garfield is aiming for. Oh, and would it have killed him to put on a tie?
Jodie Foster in Dior
Image: Dior/Getty
There are few woman who could make a dress this simple look this effective. First of all, pockets on the red carpet, we love to see it – this is the move of a Hollywood veteran who doesn’t need your approval. Well too bad, Jodie Foster, you’ve got it anyway. The embroidery at the neckline and arms lend the whole look a sporty feel which pairs perfectly with her understated hair and makeup.
Viola Davis in Gucci
Image: Gucci/Getty
Pure drama. Talk about matching the right dress to the right wearer. There is, really, nothing particularly special about this gown – it’s the type of sequinned black column dress we’ve seen on a thousand red carpets – but Davis is clearly feeling it and, thus, it becomes so much more than the sum of its parts. Her hair looks incredible and those Swarovski earrings are real showstoppers.
Kate Hudson in Carolina Herrera
Image: Alamy
Kate Hudson was nominated for her first Golden Globe in 2001 so, with more than two decades’ practice, it comes as no surprise that she’s a red carpet pro. Her strapless A-line Carolina Herrera ballgown, Titanic-style gobstopper of a necklace and elegant updo might be something of a traditional formula, but it’s a classic for a reason. She’ll be on many a best dressed list come the morning.
Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons in Gucci
Image: Gucci/Getty
Now this is how you wear a double-breasted suit. We’ll brush swiftly past the colour – Mocha Mousse is no one’s friend but thanks to Pantone we’re likely to be seeing a lot of it about this year – and focus instead on the great fit and that excellent take on a bow tie. Love the satin lapel trim. Dunst is attending in support of her husband, a nominee in the Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy category, so her more subtle 1930’s inspired black gown is a great choice for being chic without stealing the limelight.
Dwayne Johnson in Dolce & Gabbana
Image: IWC
A well fitted suit (no mean feat for a guy Johnson’s size) in a gorgeous colour with a great IWC watch and an even lovelier brooch. Just, please, ditch the nana glasses and do up one more button next time Dwayne.
Colman Domingo in Valentino
Image: Valentino/Getty
Now this is how you take a classic black tux to the next level. Simply swapping out the bow tie for an oversized scarf and adding a few polka dots really set Domingo apart from the crowd on the Golden Globes red carpet and plays perfectly into the type of retro styling he tends to prefer. Excellent accessories too. 10/10.
Dakota Fanning
Image: Alamy
Love. Dakota Fanning may be nominated for her role in TV show Ripley but she’s channelling pure Old Hollywood silver screen glamour for the Golden Globes. The scarf-style neckline, the crimson hue, the platinum waves: nailed it. The fit on that bodice is perfection.
Cate Blanchett in Louis Vuitton
Image: Alamy
Cate Blanchett has opted for that tried and tested awards season red carpet trick: dressing like the award itself. Nominated in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television category (the name of which alone tells you why these ceremonies tend to drag on) for her role in Disclaimer, whether or not this gown helps her scoop the prize, she looks great. Equal parts pretty Grecian drapery and hard-edged metal work, she radiates confidence and glamour. Plus, it’s an upcycle of a dress she wore at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024, so Blanchett gets bonus points for sustainability as well.
Cara Delevingne in Gucci
Image: Gucci/Getty
Metallics were the big womenswear story of the Golden Globes red carpet and in this slithery, slinky sequinned Gucci number, Cara Delevingne is firmly on trend. It could perhaps have done with being taken up another inch or so but other than that there’s not much to argue with here – which is no less than we expect from one of the UK’s premier supermodels.
Cyndy Powell and Glen Powell in Giorgio Armani
Image: Alamy
Top Gun: Maverick, Twisters and Hit Man star Glen Powell was one of our best dressed men of 2024 (full list here) and his first major look of 2025 hasn’t disappointed. I can overlook the slightly too shiny shirt and lack of a tie because Powell has somehow managed to pair a super-traditional cummerbund with Tom Cruise-style aviators and make it work. Oh, and he brought his mum and dad to the Golden Globes with him, which may well have just made him the most eligible man in America.
Jessica Gunning
Image: Alamy
Jessica Gunning is clearly having the time of her life – and, in that dress, so she should be. It may currently be 25°C in LA but Gunning is still in UK festive season mode and that inky velvet looks wonderful on her. The hem should maybe have been half an inch shorter but that’s a mere quibble. The Lark & Berry and Anayah jewels add just the right amount of sparkle.
Richard Gadd in Dior
Image: Alamy
He’s gained some facial hair since he last graced your screens but, slightly unkempt beard aside, it would be hard to argue that Baby Reindeer star Richard Gadd doesn’t scrub up well. Showcasing two of this year’s biggest Golden Globes menswear trends – brooches and double-breasted suits – Gadd’s all-black Dior look is suave without swerving into bouncer territory.
Jonathan Van Ness in Christian Siriano
Image: Alamy
One of the night’s early arrivals and, in true Fab Five fashion, kicking things off in real style, Jonathan Van Ness looks impeccable in a custom Christian Siriano gown. We are yet to live in a world where stars like Van Ness are able to borrow from designers the way their female counterparts do, so Siriano – a designer who made his name creating red carpet looks for non-sample size bodies – is a fantastic choice. The colour is gorgeous and the hair is, of course, picture perfect.
Ashley Graham in Bach Mai
Image: Alamy
Model Ashley Graham is primarily attending tonight’s awards as a red carpet interviewer so this fairly basic ballgown makes sense. While I’m not convinced that plunging neckline is doing all that much for her – and could have done with a necklace for balance – the peplum-esque ruffle is surprisingly pretty and well placed. It’s not groundbreaking but it gets the job done.
