Lock & Co. has occupied a Grade II listed building at 6 St James’s street since 1765. it holds two royal warrants and is the world’s 34th oldest family-run business and created the first bowler hat – hats off to them. This month, however, the British hatter has asked people to keep their hats on. Lock & Co. have launched a #HatsOnForTheNHS campaign, asking ladies and gents to dress up in their summer finery during lockdown.

Whether it’s hitting the garden in a top hat and tails, barbecuing in a boater or picking up groceries in Panama, anything hatted counts, and theatrics are certainly encouraged. The prized picture will win a £250 Lock & Co. gift voucher and a further £250 will be donated to the NHS Charities Together.

“Whilst May usually signals the start of the summer event season at Lock & Co., our thoughts this year go to the incredibly heroic workers and volunteers of our wonderful National Health Service,” comments Ben Dalrymple, chairman of Lock & Co. “We hope that we can show our thanks and brighten our days by dressing-up for our favourite events, be it in our sunny gardens, family homes or during exercise.”

In addition, the brand has committed to donate 10% of all its profits to NHS Charities Together from the sale of every Lock & Co. Couture by Awon Golding piece and every gentleman’s top hat purchased online from 11th May to 30th June. They will also be donating 200 facemasks made by the Master Hatter from Lock & Co.’s 100% cotton handkerchiefs.

Drawing on her wealth of millinery experience and using the Lock archive Awon Golding has created a capsule range of hats that celebrate iconic women, for the modern woman.
