Need some winter sun? Buy a permanent solution to your Vitamin D woes in the glamourous Balearics

It’s getting to that time of year when we begin thinking about catching some winter sun. As autumn descends on the capital – and the nights draw in and the temperature chills – it’s natural to start thinking about where to get a last-minute Vitamin D boost. And luckily for Londoners, there are a select few destinations offering reliable sunshine that are closer than you think.

Eschew long-haul flights for balmy boltholes in the Canary Islands and Balearics: both boasting mild temperatures, fewer crowds and lower, off-peak prices during the autumn and winter months. Mallorca – where we’ve found our latest Holiday Home of the Month – is a prime example of a winter sun destination that’s within easy reach. Boasting 300 sunny days per year, with at least six sunlit hours each day, Mallorca’s southwest is becoming especially sought-after. Filled with Michelin-starred restaurants, luxurious marinas, renowned golf courses and top-tier international schools, there has never been a better time to invest.

Enter High Five: a contemporary six-bedroom property, completed in 2024, perched on the cliffs overlooking the ocean in Port Andratx. Once a quaint fishing village, this picturesque natural harbour has evolved into an exclusive destination for the rich and famous, from Jeff Bezos, who sails to the marina with his superyacht, to the Spanish royal family, who have holidayed here for decades. Plus, the vibrance and culture of the capital of Palma are just a short drive away.

High Five’s striking architecture was designed to echo the curves of the surrounding cliffs and play on the waves that lap below. Listed fully furnished, the property features six bedrooms, each with its own en suite bathroom, and has been peppered throughout with incredible artworks curated by Palma-based Gallery Red. Key design features include large lighting fixtures from Occhio, suspended from towering natural stone walls, and a spectacular centrepiece staircase that spirals into the top floor.

The open-plan living and dining area is centred around a focal-point fireplace and connects seamlessly to a fully equipped kitchen, creating a space ideal for both everyday living and entertaining. Talking of the latter, there is plenty to please guests here, from the gym and sauna to spa and yoga room, as well as a gorgeous glass Bodega wine cellar that will delight all oenophiles.

The outdoor areas are equally impressive, with a large terrace, an outdoor kitchen equipped with a barbecue, and a magnificent swimming pool overlooking the Mediterranean. See you on the sunbed.
