There’s a moment at every wedding when the entire room holds its breath and all eyes turn to the bride for the grandest entrance she will probably ever make. After months (sometimes years) of speculation around her wedding dress – questioning whether it will be strapless or have puffed sleeves, trimmed with lace or adorned with pearls, floor-sweeping or mini, traditional or trailblazing – it’s the moment everyone has been waiting for (as well as the vows, the first kiss, and the champagne-fuelled party, of course).

Choosing the perfect wedding dress is possibly one of the most important decisions for brides, and understandably so. Perhaps you’ve had it all planned out since turning a teen, kept a scrapbook of all your favourite looks, and envisioned that icy white, puffy-sleeved, meringue-style dress walking you down the aisle. Or perhaps you want something modern and simple. Or maybe you’re in the ‘haven’t a clue’ camp. With endless options, from classic Bridgerton-esque gowns to contemporary sequinned short minis, and everything in between, it can be impossible to know where to start.

That’s why it’s best to tap into the creative nous of the best dress designers money can buy. Not sure how to separate the bog-standard from the crème de la crème in the wedding world? We’re here to help with our edit of the best luxury designers and brands to have on your radar. From long-established fashion houses to independent labels, we’ve rounded up the names famed for their meticulous craftsmanship and beautiful designs, and those who can cater for every type of ceremony, whether that’s a destination wedding, a summer soirée, winter nuptials, or an intimate affair at one of London’s registry offices. Step right this way, your dream dress awaits.

Savannah Miller Bridal

Having honed her skills at Alexander McQueen and Matthew Williamson, Savannah Miller launched her luxury bridal brand in 2016. It wasn’t her first foray into the world of fashion – she’d previously launched a label with her sister and actress Sienna Miller – but her eponymous bridal collections were instant hits, offering modern brides designs with a vintage edge. Drawing inspiration from the wild English countryside, classic 1930s silhouettes and boho-chic, Miller is lauded for playing with textures – think tulle, lace, chiffon and more – to ultimately create directional and timeless gowns in a mainline collection but also a bespoke service. Working closely with brides, she has created beautiful, one-of-a-kind dresses for actress Clara Paget, model Danielle Copperman and social media influencer Ambar Driscoll.

Talking about her latest SS26 collection, Adorned in Reverie, Miller explains: “This collection was deeply inspired by the lush, blousy flowers in my garden and the sense of romance and reverie that comes with tending to the earth. The awe I felt being so connected to nature influenced the textural, three-dimensional approach I took with fabric and volume in the designs.” The result? Sculptural florals, layered textures, and voluminous shapes.

The OWN Studio

London-based designers and best friends Jess Kaye and Rosie Williams came together to create something rather special in 2018 with their beautiful occasionwear and bridal label, The Own Studio. Bringing a fresh and contemporary take on traditional pieces, while maintaining strict sustainable practices, look to the brand for a dress that will stun guests on your wedding day and last for years beyond.

Handmade in their London atelier from natural fabrics, every dress from their bridal collection combines sophistication and glamour in a pared-back and quietly luxurious way. Unique and charming designs, they are perfect for the modern bride looking for something low-key, clean cut, but lavish.

Bespoke accessories are crafted from any offcuts to reduce waste, and they also offer restyling and alteration ideas to repurpose dresses so you can wear them more than once, genius. Nadine Merabi

Self-taught seamstress and businesswoman Nadine Merabi set up her company in 2016, showcasing forward-thinking but timeless ready-to-wear designs that are cute, chic and, ultimately, ones to be cherished. For bolder brides, Merabi’s viral pearl-studded design offers a modern alternative to the so-called traditional wedding dress, as the British-Lebanese designer incorporated puffed-sleeved styles for you to dazzle and shine in.

Merabi’s bridal collection is iconic, and while it may not quite pass in a formal church setting, do a quick outfit change, and it most certainly will thrive on the dance floor. Sparkly sequin embellishments and extravagant feather trims are the main features within the designs, allowing contemporary brides to celebrate their big day in all the glitz and glamour they desire. As well as dresses, the array of jumpsuits, tops and bottoms allow brides to mix and match, crafted from silky soft fabrics in long and short silhouettes that will carry you from the hen party to the honeymoon. Selena Gomez has entered her bridal era rocking one of the label’s dresses, and we suggest you follow suit.

Halfpenny London

Celebrity stylist Kate Halfpenny interned at Vivienne Westwood, studied textiles at Central Saint Martins, and after actress Emilia Fox commissioned her to design her wedding dress in 2005, Halfpenny London was established. Originally operating by word-of-mouth only, it quickly gained attention for its corset-style tops and billowing princess-inspired skirts, and now boasts a high-calibre clientele including Rihanna, Cate Blanchett, and Kate Moss.

“I understand that each bride is totally different and, by listening, I’m able to create something incredibly beautiful that’s special and unique to them. I want Halfpenny London to inspire and excite those brides who desire grown-up glamour, style and romance”, explains Halfpenny. Designed and handmade in the UK, her specialty lies in separates, creating effortlessly elegant ensembles that can be worn from registry offices to church ceremonies to barefoot beach weddings.

Celebrating 20 years of her namesake this year, her latest capsule The Twenty Collection captures the brand's versatile style. Clio Peppiatt

A recent newcomer to the bridal scene is Clio Peppiatt. Founded in 2023, her fashion-forward eveningwear brand is designed for the modern muse, and with an eye for fabulous, party-ready designs, she couldn't not dip her toes into bridalwear. We have her to thank for outrageously chic sequinned mini dresses.

Growing up in Paris, Peppiatt was surrounded by skilled artists from her youth (her grandmother was an artisanal embroider, her great-grandmother a lace-maker specialising in women’s gloves), so it’s no surprise that intricate embroidery, heavy-hand beading, and delicate lace are key features in her wedding day collection. Her signature looks give something new and fresh for contemporary brides who want something with a little more edge, glitz, and fun. Hand-embroidered moons, stars, and florals glitter throughout the bridal line so brides can shimmer and stand out in style all day, and night, long.

Vivienne Westwood

We couldn’t not mention Vivienne Westwood, because when it comes to bridal dresses, no one does it quite like the iconic British fashion label. Gracing us with fabulous wedding gowns since 1992, Westwood has always been a popular choice for its pioneering, unconventional designs with a wacky, punky edge. And if it’s good enough for the likes of Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and even fictional fashionista Carrie Bradshaw when she tied the knot with Mr Big in Sex and The City, it is certainly good enough for us…

Style-wise, Westwood has something for both the daring woman and traditional brides thanks to the made-to-order collection and made-to-measure couture pieces, designed and tailored specifically to you in the London atelier. Fancy going bespoke? An array of the finest fabrics, beading, pearls, embroidery, and appliqué will be at your fingertips throughout the entire design process, and watch as the skilled team bring every vision to life, from , flamboyant silhouettes to a classic corset styles
