We’ve survived the heatwave – but how, do we hear you ask? Discover what we’ve been visiting, wearing, eating and enjoying in June
Suffice to say, that heatwave was a bit much, wasn’t it? And the good (or bad) news is, there’s another one on the horizon. Whether you’re soaking up the heat, or hiding from it, we have spent this past month curating our wardrobes and diaries to ensure we can stay cool – both literally and metaphorically. From what we’re wearing during social season, to the rooftop bars we can’t get enough of, and the picnic essentials for surviving the heatwave in style, here’s everything our editors have been loving in June.

The rooftop: Seabird at The Hoxton, Shoreditch
The recent heatwave has meant one thing when it comes to making dinner plans: outdoor seating is non-negotiable. For a trendy spot that’s ideal for dinner dates with friends, the rooftop terrace at Seabird at The Hoxton is my new favourite. Combining delicious seafood plates, Herradura Tequila cocktails and sweeping city views, it's easy to see why Seabird is one of the city's most sought-after rooftop destinations. Highlights from the summer menu included a grilled peach salad and soft-shell crab, both of which perfectly complemented a warm evening in the capital.

The fragrance: Givenchy L'INTERDIT ROUGE Eau de Parfum
My perfume collection is filled with spicy, woody notes, and my latest fragrance by Givenchy is no different. I visited the brand’s pop-up at Westfield Stratford City earlier this month, and as soon as I had a spritz of L’Interdit Rouge, I knew it was going straight in my basket. With top notes of blood orange and ginger, and a base of patchouli and sandalwood, it strikes the balance between boldness and sophistication.
The event: Taste of London
This month I headed to Regent’s Park for the annual Taste of London food festival. It was my first year attending, and it definitely won’t be my last. The festival is a celebration of everything that makes London’s culinary scene so compelling. Between sampling dishes from favourites including Harry’s and Sexy Fish, enjoying a prosecco masterclass and soaking up the festival atmosphere, it’s a complete foodie heaven.

The social season dress: Nobody’s Child Black Polka Dot Marley Maxi Dress
Polka dots are the print of the season, and I felt extremely au fait when I sported this gorgeous Nobody’s Child dress at Royal Ascot this month. We all know the trials and tribulations of finding a dress that meets all of the Royal Enclosure requirements, but this one ticked all the boxes – covered shoulders and falling well below the knee – while being extremely comfortable to wear (thank you, flowing fabric) and easy to style. I wore it with a wide, black and white hat as a fascinator and a simple Kate Spade clutch. It would also work just as easily for Wimbledon and every other garden party you’ve got on the horizon (plus, dare I say it, winter soirées when the fashion palette turns darker). Buy once and wear again – and again and again.
The British footwear brand: Lanx
Despite the fast fashion trends which sadly dominate our retail landscape, shoes were, once upon a time, built to last. There are still a handful of British brands that are focused on creating handmade, high quality shoes – and the one which is on my radar is Lanx. Founded in 2018 by Marco Vaghetti, and born in Whalley, Lancashire, Lanx designs robust and stylish footwear for every occasion, each piece stamped with the Lancashire rose or the brand's British White bull.
Created at the Lancashire factory and repairs workshop, Lanx is committed to British manufacturing and the majority of its product collections are made in the UK. New for summer is the expanded 365 Vibram collection, which includes two new shoe styles: Scorton for men and Edenfield for women. Designed to transition seamlessly between town and country, they both feature the Vibram Arctic grip sole combined with water-resistant materials so you needn’t worry about wet feet. With a hiking holiday and festivals in my diary, I opted for the Edenfield trainer in the conker hue, which will no doubt look as chic up a mountain in Austria as it will in Finsbury Park.

The cocktails: Black Lines
The heatwave heralded the arrival of picnics in the park and, instead of packing lukewarm wine or bitter gin and tonic cans, Black Lines came to the rescue for all my cocktail needs. Having partnered with the best British distilleries while using freshly pressed juices, and reeling from its B Corp certification earlier this year, the range includes the pear and white tea fizz, rum punch, Shirley Temple and more. You can also find these cocktails on tap or in bottles at The Standard hotel, the National Theatre, Selfridges and Whole Foods.
My picks of the bunch? The new Watermelon Paloma – a fresh take on Mexico's favourite serve which blends smooth Tico Tequila with juicy watermelon soda, and a touch of Halen Môn sea salt – and the classic Hugo Spritz. Featuring lightly sparkling wine and London Dry Gin, with the zest of lemon for a refreshing finish, this will transport you straight to the shores of Northern Italy.

The swimwear: Hunza G Colette polka dot bikini
I’m a big fan of sun, Hunza G and polka-dots. So when all three combine, I’m one very happy lady. The iconic swimwear brand has just launched a new polka-dot capsule, and it’s every bit feminine, playful, and sunshine-ready. I’m adding the Colette bikini to my shopping list for a dotty spotty style that is perfect for lapping up the sun beachside on my summer holidays (or in the garden during London’s heatwaves).
The summer drink spot: Le Jardin Minuty at Dovetale, Mayfair
Mayfair’s Dovetale restaurant has been transformed into the dreamiest drinking den for summer, and I was lucky to be one of the first in. Created in collaboration with Minuty and the papercraft floral studio Pom Pom Factory, step inside the new Le Jardin Minuty terrace and discover a laid-back, sun-drenched retreat in the heart of London. Enjoy the very best rosé from the experts in a beautiful flower-strewn setting, washed down with delicious seasonal small plates, and be transported straight to the elegant shores of the Côte d’Azur.

The co-ord: Kindred of Ireland
Paired together or worn separately, you just can’t go wrong with a co-ord in summer. I’ve currently got my eye on Kindred of Ireland’s Picnic shirt and shorts set – bright and breezy, cut from linen in a fun striped pattern, it’s designed for warm days and balmy evenings, whether heading for strawberries and cream at Wimbledon or sipping on al fresco drinks at the park.

The summer knit: Slow Love Essential handknit jumper
It feels like a lifetime ago now but cast your mind back to the beginning of June, before the biblical heatwave, to a time when the weather was, well, everything all at once. When you couldn’t leave the house with SPF50 and an umbrella. When the second the sun went away it felt like the depths of winter again. Well, around this time I got my hands on the Essential jumper from British brand Slow Love – and it proved an absolute revelation. Hand-knit using pure cotton yarn, it’s both thick and breathable; warm without being sweaty, and heavy enough that its oversized fit falls just right over denim shorts or silk skirts. I’m obsessed.
The al fresco essential: Stanley picnic collection
You don't need to tell me I'm extremely behind the times in discovering the Stanley Cup. Don't get me wrong, I'm aware of it, I've just always had a kitchen cupboard so full of reusable water bottles that I could never quite justify buying one. But when the good people over at Stanley got in touch asking if I would like to take its new picnic collection for a spin, I decided it was finally time to see what all the fuss is about. Complete with a Quencher tumbler, coffee cup and mini cooler in a seasonal picnic stripe, consider me a convert. I've used my Quencher every day since it arrived. Well played Stanley.
The post-workout hero: Wholy[me] Deep Relief Patches

I’ve written before in this series about being something of a gym bunny and, with the sun out and the days longer, that really ramps up in the summer. Which is all well and good until you find yourself frozen halfway up the stairs because you went too hard in the gym yesterday and now your quads have seized up. Where once I would have turned to deep heat and a foam roller, I now have Wholy[me]’s Deep Relief Patches: an ingenious stick-on patch infused with wintergreen, frankincense, eucalyptus and arnica, and designed with ‘microcone’ technology (think a much smaller and gentler version of microneedling) to deliver effective, targeted relief to the muscles that need it most.
