Step inside art's most glittering event of the year
The capital’s most star-studded art event, the Serpentine Summer Party 2024, returned to the Kensington Gardens gallery last night. Held annually to raise funds for the Serpentine, as well as mark the opening of the Serpentine Pavilion, which this year has been designed by Misuk Cho of Mass Galleries, the event is one of the most exclusive on London’s summer social scene.
Hosted by Serpentine CEO, Bettina Korek, and artistic director, Hans Ulrich Obrist, as ever the Serpetine Summer Party 2024 was attended by the great and the good from the world’s of art, fashion, music, and film. This year’s co-hosts included Venus Williams, Peggy Gou and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, while Skepta, Jus Jammin and Princess Julia took to the decks to provide the soundtrack for the evening, which was fuelled by Ruinart champagne, Whispering Angel wine, and canapes by Farmacy and Skye Gyngell’s Spring.
Elsewhere, guests including Alexa Chung, Benedict Cumberbatch, Laurence Fishburne and Sadiq Khan took in Yinka Shonibare’s latest show, Suspended States, at Serpentine South and had their photos taken as part of Judy Chicago’s interactive global project, What if Women Ruled the World?
