This year's event was hosted by Cate Blanchett and attended by the great and good of the worlds of art, fashion, culture, sport and more

The 2025 Serpentine Summer Party rolled into Kensington Gardens last night, bringing together luminaries from the world’s of art, cinema, architecture, sport, media and fashion to celebrate the opening of the gallery’s annual Pavilion.

Hosted this year by actor Cate Blanchett, alongside members of the Serpentine team, including CEO Bettina Korek, artistic director Hans Ulrich Obrist, and chairman of the board of trustees Michael R. Bloomberg, the event acts not only as a glamorous get together but also as a crucial fundraiser for the gallery, allowing it to keep its exhibitions open to the public for free.

As ever, the star of the show was the Serpentine Pavilion, which this year celerbates its 25th annversary and, for 2025, has been designed by Bangladeshi architect Marina Tabassum and named A Capsule in Time. Elsewhere, guests were also treated to viewings of Giuseppe Panone’s exhibition, Thoughts in the Roots, at Serpentine South and let loose in the new Play Pavilion, designed by Sir Peter Cook in partnership with the Lego Group.

Attendees, who this year included Burberry’s Daniel Lee, Dina Asher-Smith, Alicia Vikander, Lily Allen, Rebel Wilson and Georgia May Jagger, were also treated to musical performances by Carolina Polachek and GALLiVANTER, and Art Selfie 2, an AI-powered experience created by Google which allows guests to place themselves into iconic artworks and cultural moments.

“Supporting our cultural institutions and their power to illuminate the world at large and our place within it is of paramount importance,” said Cate Blanchett. “I’m honoured to co-chair the Serpentine party and its summer festivities where so many creative forms — architecture, performance, music, science and digital narratives — intersect. To come together around a pavilion created by Marina Tabassum, whose socially driven work particularly in her home country of Bangladesh to meet the challenges faced by Rohingya refugees, is an inspirational opportunity.”
