Slick, sustainable and on the pulse, Swedish car manufacturer Polestar has been a pioneer in the electric car space since 2017, bringing cutting-edge technology and market-leading designs to roads across the world. Polestar is committed to sustainability and innovation – and there is no better deonstration of this than the Polestar 3.

Launched in late 2022 as the SUV for the electric age, the Polestar 3 balances comfort, performance and luxury with impeccable precision and, despite being a much larger car, has a smaller CO2 footprint than the Polestar 2 (when it was launched in 2020) – such is the commitment of the brand to minimising its carbon impact. A full-size five-seater, the car is spacious, the design modern and the drive experience quick, responsive and powerful. Packed with customisable features and operating completely on battery power, the Polestar 3 combines style and functionality in equal measure, becoming so successful that it’s the first of the brand’s cars to be made on two continents, with production in both Chengdu, China and South Carolina, USA.

Made for those seeking adventure, the Polestar 3 is powered by two motors with a four-wheel drive design, and a big focus on speed, stability and power (the dual-motor powertrain can provide up to 380kW/510 bhp and accelerate from 0 to 60mph in 4.5 seconds). It takes the traditional SUV into the new era of electric cars with an impressive battery life, boasting a long range of up to 438 miles (using the single motor, or 395 miles with the dual motor). It recharges quickly too – from 10 to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes – so you can be on the road for lengthy periods without worrying about loss of power.

Aesthetically, the Polestar 3 is sharp and elegant – long and wide in its stance with a signature low roofline, frameless mirrors, flushed side windows and integrated door handles. With a choice of six metallic colours (Thunder, Midnight, Space, Jupiter, Magnesium and Snow), whether you’re after a darker, more mysterious shade or a lighter, fresh tone, there’s something to suit your style preferences. And, to top off its sporty aesthetic, the car is finished with a panoramic roof made from acoustic, laminated glass, which not only provides exceptional overhead views and a light, airy feel inside the car, but also reduces glare and lowers UV radiation by 99.5 per cent.

Every intricate detail is expertly thought through at Polestar. Look closely at the SUV’s body and you’ll see wings in the bonnet and bumper, plus aero blades in the rear. These features may add a little je ne sais quoi to the aesthetic but are actually designed to reduce drag when driving by improving airflow and providing a smoother ride. Then there are the alloy wheels which help to reduce impact from the road’s surfaces and the high-intensity rear light bar which increases visibility day and night, whatever the conditions. There’s even a front storage compartment neatly tucked under the bonnet, allowing for more room for road trip essentials without compromising on the Polestar 3’s silhouette.

Step inside and you’ll find an interior that’s roomy and a style that is minimalistically chic, a nod to the marque’s Scandi roots. Bright thanks to the aforementioned panoramic roof, the feel is something akin to a sports car, with low seating, ambient lighting, a flat floor and plush premium upholstery. The vinyl-coated steering wheel is ergonomic for precise steering and comfortable to use, while displays and controls are modern and intuitive, with an easy to use 14.5-inch touchscreen central display and a 9-inch driver display fixed to the steering column. Infointertainment is powered by Android Automotive OS with a unique Polestar-developed interface and a high quality audio system with plenty of scope for upgrades (add on Dolby Atmos, a bespoke Bowers & Wilkins audio system or even headrest speakers for the ultimate experience).

Further customisation comes in the form of six interior themes designed to make the Polestar 3 completely individual to you, with colour-matching palettes, upholstery and decor, plus options to upgrade. Upholstery is forward-thinking, made from Bio-attributed MicroTech fabrics, a vegan alternative to leather with 70 per cent fewer CO₂ emissions than conventional PVC.

But, of course, the best way to see the Polestar 3 in all its glory is to take it for a spin yourself. Polestar provides a test drive service at its locations across the UK so you can experience everything it has to offer, getting to know all the in-depth features and seeing just how smooth the ride is from the driving seat itself.
