What does a car have to be for pundits to christen it ‘the most powerful SUV in the world’? To find out, let’s get behind the wheel of the Aston Martin DBX707, the model occasioning such accolades. The iconic marque has recently released a new and, if such a thing is possible, improved version of the DBX707, which was originally launched in 2022.

There’s no skirting around the raw power of the DBX707. It is fitted with the most potent engine of any luxury SUV on the market across the world today, boasting 697bhp and 900Nm of torque. The DBX707 can reach a top speed of 193mph, dispatched by the racing-grade reactions of a wet clutch, and catapult itself from 0-62mph in just 3.3 seconds.

As any car lover knows, however, power is nothing without control. Aston Martin’s aim with the DBX707, it says, was to pair performance with impeccable precision and responsiveness. To that end, the model comes with a suite of modifications: the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, electronic systems and aerodynamics have all been upgraded. The DBX707 features re-tuned suspension, a new carbon fibre propshaft, launch control, re-calibrated dampers, new programming for the electronic stability programme,  improved power steering, and carbon ceramic brakes – which come in useful when handling all that extra power.

Of course, it wouldn’t be an Aston Martin without bags of style. With its enlarged, double-vaned grille, flanked by horizontal daytime running lights set within newly-sculpted brake cooling ducts, the DBX707 exudes a muscular beauty – it is commanding, confident and domineering.

The DBX707 also comes in five new paint colours, while other visible changes include new ‘presenting’ door handles, which power outwards when the car is unlocked, and swivel-head door mirrors containing fully-integrated cameras to support 3D parking camera functionality. Through it all, the sporting character essential to Aston Martin is not lost – the DBX707 retains the hallmarks of the marque’s classic design DNA.

A new interior matches the car’s uncompromising exterior – the latest evolution of Aston Martin’s bold new look, debuted on the DB12 and Vantage. Inside the DBX707, clean, contemporary lines create a sense of cohesion, with one striking horizontal line bisecting the dashboard. Chrome materials, contemporary veneers and a simplified centre console achieve a balance between classic sports car and modern luxury. There is also the option to personalise your model via the marque’s bespoke service, Q by Aston Martin.

As well as its streamlined look, the DBX707’s interior is state-of-the art in capability, too. A new infotainment system features a multi-screen setup, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, multiple USB-C connections, and full online connectivity supported by the Aston Martin app. In keeping with the marque’s philosophy of blending digital and analogue controls, the system uses both touchscreen and physical buttons (for things like gear selection, drive mode and heating and ventilation).

So there you have it: blistering performance, innovative dynamics and unmistakable style.

The result? A vehicle with the good looks of an SUV and a drive that makes you feel as though you’re behind the wheel of a sports car.
