A new Scratch menu at Spring Restaurant in Somerset House, Strand (Saturday)

The supremely pretty and eco-conscious Spring restaurant within Somerset House is launching a weekend Scratch menu, available on the last Saturday of every month. Taking a stand against food waste, the Scratch menu is designed by head chef Skye Gyngell and incorporates often overlooked or discarded ingredients. Unlike the pre-theatre weekday Scratch menu, the new offering is a more varied edit, which includes vegetarian alternatives for starter and mains.

St David’s Day Dining at Bryn Williams, Strand (all weekend)

Also taking place at Somerset House this weekend, Bryn Williams at Somerset House is kicking off the St David’s Day celebrations early by launching a new Welsh menu, available for two weeks. Tuck into classic Welsh dishes including leek and potato soup and Pwdin Eva (Welsh apple pudding), served within the dramatic surrounds of the South Wing restaurant.

Phyllida Barlow Exhibition at the RA, Mayfair (all weekend)

The striking sculptures of acclaimed British artist Phyllida Barlow are on display at the Royal Academy of Arts from this weekend. Entitled cul-de-sac, marvel at Barlow’s new body of work, created specifically to fit the Jungels-Winkler Galleries, including a range of large-scale works made from recycled materials.

Gloria Opens in Shoreditch (all weekend)

Find a slice of Capri on Great Eastern Street in Shoreditch this weekend. Gloria, the anticipated new opening from Parisian restauranteurs Big Mamma, is opening this Friday. Tuck into fluffy pizzas and carbonara, decadently served in a wheel of cheese, within the surrounds of a fifties-style dining room. The decor is chic, the music toe-tapping and the portions are just like mamma used to make.

The Maiyet Collective, a sustainable pop-up shop, is residing at Harvey Nichols this weekend. The two-week showcase presents a mecca of sustainable and eco-friendly luxury brands, including Pippa Small, Zilver, Alice Lee, Ecosophy, Honest Skincare and Thread Tales. There is also an eclectic programme of events including a weaving workshop with ‘zero waste’ textile trailblazer Maria Sigma and an in-conversation evening between ethical jeweller Daniela Colaiacovo, founder of MAKAL, and jewellery editor Annabel Davidson.

French restaurant Orrery in Marylebone has partnered with new fitness studio, Xtend Barre Marylebone, on a Barre & Brunch offering, taking place this Sunday morning. An uplifting and fat-burning barre class, incorporating pilates, dance and ballet, is followed by a two-course meal within the light-filled, chic Orrery restaurant, served with coffee and fresh juices.

Arthur Miller on Stage, London (all weekend)

The work of playwright Arthur Miller returns to the West End this weekend. The American Clock, which captures both hardship and optimism during The Great Depression, can be seen at The Old Vic, while The Price is at Wyndham’s theatre, reviving the playwright’s 1968 tale of family dynamics for a new audience.

Nobu Sake Dinners, Shoreditch and Mayfair (Friday and Saturday)

This weekend offers the chance to meet the famed Japanese chef and restauranteur behind the Nobu brand, Nobu Matsuhisa. The culinary maestro has joined forces with sake supremo Fumio Hazu to host two sake-fuelled dinners, on Friday (Nobu Shoreditch) and Saturday (Nobu Berkeley Street) respectively. The dinners will consist of an 8 course tasting menu, featuring traditional Japanese dishes, paired with sakes especially picked for each dish. Hazu has exclusively supplied Nobu restaurants with sake from his family’s brewery for more than three decades.

The Oscars 2019 (Sunday)

The 91st Academy Awards ceremony will take place this Sunday. The biggest names in Hollywood will descend on The Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard for another year of glitz, glamour and – more likely than not – a bit of drama. Celebrate The Oscars in London at The K Bar, which is shaking up nominee-inspired cocktails and a live screening from 9pm (tickets are priced at £25). Book Monday off work and make a night of it at 45 Park Lane, which is live streaming the awards show from 12am UK time, alongside a special menu and flowing Negroni cocktails.

Nominees include Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale and Rami Malek, all of whom are up for Actor in a Leading Role, whilst Actress in a Leading Role nominees include Glenn Close, Lady Gaga and Olivia Colman. Hit movies such as A Star Is Born, Green Book, The Favourite and Incredibles 2 are all up for the iconic gold statuette.
