Christmas encourages us all to slow down – and for some, that quite literally translates to spending days on end in front of the TV. Luckily for you, the world’s biggest streaming platforms have set themselves up for the task of endless entertaining this season with plenty of new and old crowd-pleasing films and series. However, one surefire genre to keep all ages happy is murder mysteries. Whether you need a family-friendly whodunit or fancy getting lost in a juicy murder mystery during Twixmas, discover the best murder mysteries to stream now, from Stephen Graham’s Bodies to the latest film in the Knives Out trilogy which landed on Netflix today.

Bodies, Netflix

Starring Stephen Graham and Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, Bodies is based on the 2014-15 DC Vertigo graphic novel of the same name which was transformed into an eight-episode series for Netflix in 2023. It is set in Longharvest Lane in Whitechapel, where a dead body appears out of the blue. However there’s much more to this mystery than what initially meets the eye, as the same body has appeared in the same location on four different dates throughout history: 1890, 1941, 2023 and 2053. As a result, four Metropolitan Police detectives cross paths that eventually become interlinked with consequences that can be felt long after the first murder…

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, Netflix

Landing on Netflix today (12 December 2025), Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) returns to our screens in his most dangerous case yet in the third and darkest chapter of Rian Johnson’s murder mystery opus. Starring Josh O’Connor as young priest Jud Duplenticy – and the likes of Josh Brolin, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott and Kerry Washington – it’s clear that all is not well in the pews when a sudden and seemingly impossible murder rocks the town. The lack of an obvious suspect prompts local police chief Geraldine Scott (Mila Kunis) to join forces with Blanc to unravel a mystery that defies all logic. Pass us the popcorn.

Only Murders in the Building, Disney+

One of the most critically acclaimed modern murder mysteries – having scooped several Emmy Awards and nominated for a slew of Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice gongs – Only Murders in the Building is an American mystery comedy-drama that’s now in its fifth season and shows no sign of slowing down. It follows a trio of neighbours, played by Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez, who all share a love for true crime podcasts. They form friendships while investigating a string of murders in their upscale Manhattan apartment. As a result, they launch their own podcast about the cases, titled Only Murders in the Building. With guest appearances from Renée Zellweger and Tina Fey, and with rumours swirling about the next season being set in London, this is definitely one to add to your watchlist this month.

The Fall, BBC iPlayer

If you haven’t already watched The Fall, where have you been? Starring Jamie Dornan as creepy Paul Spector and Gillian Anderson as savvy superintendent Stella Gibson, this 2016 crime drama series is set in Northern Ireland and follows Spector the serial killer who hides behind the facade of a normal life while committing a succession of heinous crimes. Spanning three series and 17 episodes, Gibson, during her secondment to Belfast, does everything and anything to track him down. Nail-biting, disturbing but seriously bingeable, this is one of the BBC’s most famous modern crime dramas for a reason.

Broadchurch, ITVX

Another murder mystery that gripped the nation from 2013-2017 was Broadchurch, following detectives Alec Hardy (David Tennant) and Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) investigating shocking crimes in the sleepy and quaint Dorset coastal town of Broadchurch. With three seasons to sink your teeth into, each tackles a new case – series one starts with the murder of an 11-year-old boy which exposes the community’s deep-seated secrets while the second follows an unresolved cold case and the third is about a harrowing sexual assault crime – while exploring the impact of trauma, grief, and suspicion on the Broadchurch residents, investigators and police staff.

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, BBC iPlayer

Based on the young adult mystery crime debut novel of the same name by Holly Jackson, the six-part television adaptation landed on BBC iPlayer last year and follows true crime-obsessed seventeen-year-old Pip Fitz-Amobi. In between her studies in the fictional town of Little Kilton, she uses a school project to investigate the murder of popular student Andie Bell and the suicide of the supposed perpetrator Sal Singh. Her goal? To clear Sal’s name, who she feels has been falsely accused, and uncover the true criminal and see justice served. Just a small bit of homework, then…

The Thursday Murder Club, Netflix

The highly-anticipated screen adaptation of Richard Osman’s beloved bestselling novel of the same name, The Thursday Murder Club, landed on Netflix earlier this year and received rave reviews. It follows four irrepressible retirees – Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley) and Joyce (Celia Imrie) – who spend their time solving cold case murders for fun. When an unexplained death occurs on their own doorstep, their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn as they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands. Dun, dun, dun.

A Haunting in Venice, Disney+

A supernatural thriller based upon the novel Hallowe’en Party by Agatha Christie, and starring her most celebrated sleuth, Hercule Poirot (see more below), A Haunting in Venice is set amid the eerie aftermath of the Second World War in Venice. As the storied Italian city prepares for Halloween, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance at a haunted palazzo when one of the guests is murdered. Starring Kenneth Branagh, Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin and Michelle Yeoh, step inside a sinister world of shadows and secrets thanks to Disney+’s 2023 reimagination of a Christie classic.

Agatha Christie's Poirot, ITVX

Probably one of the most famous, and longest-running, crime dramas in the history of television, Agatha Christie’s Poirot has been gracing our screens since 1989 and racked up a roster of more than 70 episodes until it ended production in 2013. Luckily for you, they’re all available to stream on ITVX, following Christie’s most famous fictional detective, Hercule Poirot, as he becomes embroiled in several murders and mysteries. Helped by Captain Hastings and Scotland Yard Chief Inspector James Japp, watch as Poirot investigates alphabetical serial killings and murders in plain sight at crowded parties. There’s a reason why your grandmother can’t get enough of Poirot’s storylines
